Sue and I almost drowned on our last trip to the beach. We had gone into the ocean at Seaside Beach late one afternoon. Although it was a cloudy day, the water was quite warm. The beach was nearly empty. Everyone, including the lifeguards, had gone home for dinner. We were laughing and splashing. Then, suddenly, or laughs became screams of fear. We realized we had been caught by the outgoing tide and could not get back to short. Neither Sue nor I was strong enough to fight the tide alone. We were beginning to panic when a group of women came walking up the beach. When they saw us waving our arms they swam out to help us. They were strong swimmers, and soon we were safe on shore.
