Menasha on the Move: June 1 - August 8
We are challenging you to help us travel the
world by simply moving. For each minute of
exercise you do (for example, walking, biking,
chair yoga, gardening) you'll have traveled a
mile. There will be opportunities to check in and
pass along words of encouragement to others
over these months of movement. To sign up,
please contact the Menasha Senior Center.
Great job to those participating for
traveling to Cuba and Scotland! We
are on our way around the world!

Staying Safe while Beating the Summer Heat
COVID-19 has interrupted our usual routines and will continue to do so throughout the summer months.
Places we typically go may not be open of available to get out of the heat and humidity. Here are suggestions
for staying safe and keeping cool if your local beach, pool, library or mall is closed.
Stay Cool Inside
Stay Hydrated
Keep curtains, shades, or blinds closed to keep
out the sun. Heat rises, so if you have a lower
level or basement in your home, spend time
where it is cooler.
Take a cool bath or shower.
Close door of unused rooms to keep cool air in
the part of your house you are using
Place a damp washcloth in the refrigerator or
freezer to create a cool pack for your neck or
forehead.
Going Outside During COVID-19
Stay at least 6 feet away from other people
Be sure to stay hydrated. Do not share water
bottles
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting
clothing, A hat, sunscreen, and insect repellant
are also recommended.
Pace yourself - reduce physical activity and
avoid exercising outdoor during peak hours.
When it is difficult to remain 6 ft. away from
others, wear a lightweight cloth face covering.
Go somewhere secluded to take a break from
wearing a face mask if you have trouble
breathing
Limit your time in the sun and take breaks in
the shade.
TED Talk Virtual Programming
Are you bored of the same old TV shows and movies?
Do you want to learn something new and interesting
each week? If so, you should consider signing up for our
new virtual program “Time For a Talk: a TED Talk.”
What is a TED Talk? A TED talk is an 8-10 minute vid-
eo on varying topics. These videos are aimed to educate
and entertain viewers with exciting new ideas and infor-
mation. We will watch a video each Thursday around
2:45 and then share our thoughts and reactions that it
sparked. This conversation will take part over a
GoToMeeting link where you can either call in or join
on another electronic device. Sign up today! This pro-
gram is offered to you at no cost!
Paper Barn Quilt
Have you ever seen something that
looks like a quilt on the side of a barn?
There are hundreds of these barn quilts
scattered throughout Wisconsin’s farm-
land and many of them are symbols for
the farm. Barn quilts are true pieces of
Americana and now you can design
your very own! Use the squares as
building blocks to create your quilt.
The squares could create an image such
as a flower or a simple geometric
design. Get creative and have fun!
Recipe for One
Have you ever made a meal and ended up with more leftovers than you could eat? Here is a recipe that makes
one serving!
Mac and Cheese in a Mug
Servings: 1 Prep Time: 5 min. Cook Time: 5 min.
Ingredients:
1/3 cup of pasta
3/4 cup of cold water
4 tbsp. of milk
1/2 tsp. or cornstarch
4 tbsp. of grated
cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to
taste
Directions:
In a large microwavable mug or large bowl add in the macaroni and the
water. You need a large mug as the water will boil up.
Microwave for roughly 3 ½ minutes. You want the pasta to be fully
cooked. (Timing is based on my 1200W microwave so your timing might
vary)
Pour off the remaining cooking water.
Stir in the milk, cornstarch and shredded cheese and microwave for a final
60 seconds to create your sauce. Stir well, season with salt and pepper and
enjoy
Recipe Notes: Cooking time will vary greatly depending on your microwave
and the width and depth of the mug. Always keep a close eye on your mug
while in the microwave so it doesn’t overflow or overcook.
