Introduction to Business Fairview CaresThe Introduction to Business students are working to raise money for Fairview Cares. Students are gaining real life experience by selling sponsorships and making phone calls to local businesses. Students created a collaborative database of local businesses and contact information. Students are in the process of calling and delivering their sales pitch to the over 300 companies on the database. Students are working in small teams and are responsible for managing 50-80 contacts. Business students are keeping a contact log that summarizes each contact they make with a company. Students have been able to make $2,950 in sales, in the first two weeks of the project. If you are interested or know someone who would like to donate to Fairview Cares, please visit our website FairviewCares.org or follow us on Twitter (@FairviewCares).
CP English II
In CP English II, we have been working with The Book Thief. Students have been working on different projects including a page repurposing project in which they redesigned a page from a book to express a quotation from the novel. We have also been working on research papers and have been learning how to correctly format in MLA style!
Creative Writing
In Creative Writing, we have been working through a poetry unit. Students have learned about the elements of poetry and the rules of some formed poems. Each student also selected a poet to learn about and present on to the class. By the end of the unit, students will have created their own form and free verse poems. We have also had some fun activities including a sensory writing workshop and a blackout poetry day!
For Pi Day, Ms. Andres’ classes brought in a total of 25 pies to celebrate while working on their pi math
problems!
Mrs. Nelson’s students created storyboards and lmed news stories about World War II using Touchcast, an app which allowed students to broadcast live from a news studio or “on location” via green screen!

Honors World Cultures Students Assess Global GoalsThe students in Mrs. Nies’s Honors World Cultures class recently explored
major issues plaguing our world today and how these topics eventually led to the creation of the United Nations Global Goals. These goals, are an attempt
to better the world by focusing on 17 unique pillars that affect everyone, whether it be large or small scale. The students researched each of the goals and selected one to focus on as a topic for their essay. The essays provided
background facts on the issue, connectivity to the goal in their life and suggestions on how they personally can make a change. The students then presented their papers to the class for discussion. The students’ visions for the future were ones of sustainable development and personal investment.
Current Events Classes Explore Major Topics Affecting Our World
Want to know what’s going on in the world or debate a controversial topic at hand? Then stop by, Mrs. Nies’s Current Events Classes. Starting with the 2018
Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the students explored the history of the Winter Olympics, the cultural identity of Pyeongchang and
presented “Facebook” pages for their favorite athletes. The class then shifted gears to focus on the Immigration debate and DACA concerning the proposed plans for Immigration reform. Through reading a series of articles, watching mini documentaries and constructing our own debates, all sides of the issue
were weighted and addressed. The end of February was met with reflection on the Parkland High School shooting. The students looked at statistics involving
the Second Amendment, while following the steps taken by their peers in Florida to raise awareness of the need for school safety. The class also read
articles about juvenile crime and the success rates of juvenile rehabilitation. Mental health issues in students were another concern as well. With so much going on in the news lately, there is hardly ever a dull moment of class time!

In preparation to watch the movie in Spanish the week before break, Spanish 3 students each got a topic to research and present to the class. The result was a bulletin board that serves
as a guide to the movie Coco, identifying cultural elements and icons that one unfamiliar with Mexican culture might overlook. Can you spot these things/people in the movie?
Our World Up Close

My style is focused on nature and the beauty of the outdoors. Macro is a big part of what I do. I think of macro as giving us a closer look into our world and helping us see up close what we may not see or notice day to day. I like to show the beauty of the closer look of our world.

Seniors
Girls BasketballLadies, the Fairview School District and entire community want to say thank you for all your commitment towards this year’s season. The revived energy and attitude towards the program was remarkable. You all competed and worked so hard in all practices and games. The amount of improvement throughout the season was a testament to your desire, focus, and wiliness to work as a group. You finished the season with an overall record of 7-15, while showing improvement each and every day. You won two out of your last three games. You all believed in each other and in your last game of the season you defeated Seneca in overtime, who is this year’s D10 champs. The leadership from this year’s seniors will help with the foundation of building the program in the future. Seniors, you will be missed! Thanks to the entire team for your commitment.
Go Tigers!!
