We love dogs, yes We do...We love our community and so

should you!Besides being a nuisance, unleashed dogs and uncollected dog waste is a serious problem for our Association.

Next time you’re tempted to let your dog roam free or leave your dog’s droppings on the lawn, please remember these facts:

1. The Environmental Protection Agency is becoming aggressive about enforcing the Clean Water Act. Our Association could be fined if dog waste goes uncollected.2. Unleashed dogs are not more likely to defecate in neighbor’s yards. Uncollected dog waste may lead to a special assessment. If fined by the EPA, the Association could face a potential special assessment that would be levied against all members - not just dog owners.3. The appearance and quality of the common areas are known to affect home sales - not just for how much they sell, but how quickly.4. The more residents complain about dog waste, the more time the manager must spend on enforcement rather than serving the Association.5. Uncollected dog waste spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste.

We love dogs - we really do. We also love our community! That is why the Association is committed to enforcing the county leash law - so all residents may enjoy our community.

According to the U.S. Humane Society, an unleashed dog has an average life span of less than four years! Allowing your dog to run free threatens your dog’s health and welfare and the happiness it brings to you.

We trust we can count on you for voluntary compliance with the leash law. We don’t like to call animal control, but we won’t have any choice if your dog is running free.

leash laW“harris county”

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances:1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRILMulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.

Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls.

Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy.

Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control.

Most important is proper watering• Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.)• Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage.• In severe drought, water every 5th day.• Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT.• A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots.• Less watering also saves you money!!Submitted by Aardvark Pest Control

The Cimarron Swim Team will have online registration began in February at www.cimstswordfish.com. Our team is open to the public and we welcome any swimmer from any neighborhood! If you want to do a paper registration, you can (1) attend the Cimarron Elementary Carnival on Friday, April 13, 2012 from 4:30-8:30 PM and look for our booth or (2) make arrangements with Stephani Peralta (281-217-3635) to register. We look forward to another splashing fun season!

CimArroN’S Pool SEASoN 2012The Cimarron Board has decided to have our photo ID cards in place again this season. Every resident (over the age of 3 years old) who enters the pool must have a photo ID card. If you have a photo ID card that was issued in 2009 or has a 09 sticker on it and you are under the age of 18 then you must have your picture re-taken. Please fill out the form and bring it with you or place in the mail if just requesting stickers. If you have paid your homeowners assessments and have your photo ID card then you

just need renewal stickers. You can mail in the pool registration included in the Cimarron Star to the MASC Austin Properties, Inc. and the “2012” stickers will be mailed back to you. There is no fee for Cimarron residents ID’s or their guest card. Please note that guest cards with the number 4 on them and are valid for up to four guests. These guest cards are validated with a 2012 sticker and are available one per household.

If you have a “Temporary” pool card; they are no longer valid, you will need to get your pictures taken.

If you are a new Cimarron resident then you will need to get your picture taken for your photo ID card. Or you may choose to bring in a small picture that is about 1 inch wide by 2 high.

For Pictures & Stickers we will be at the Cimarron Community Center (next to the pool) at 818 1/2 Pickford at the following times:

9 AM to 1 PMApril 28th and April 29th
