As we wrap up this school year, I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Mrs. Hall and I have had a great year and hope you and your child have as well. We are so thankful for your wonderful support of the school and your positive comments on the climate and instruction that has taken place this year. The school would not be able to do all the activities it does without your support. We want to thank you for being a part of the Westside Intermediate family and wish each of you a safe and relaxing summer. With that, we also will be saying so long to part of our Westside Family. Mrs. Anita Conway and Mrs. Debbie Karten are retiring at the end of the school year. Mrs. Karten has taught at the Intermediate School for 16 of her 33 years as an educator. Prior to that she taught at the Primary School for 11 years. Mrs. Conway has been a part of the Westside family for 10 years of her 17 1/2 year career as an educator. While we will miss seeing them everyday here at WIS, we wish them the very best in this next chapter of their lives. Just a reminder that the last day of school for students will be Wednesday, June 17th. June 15 h , 16 th and 17 th will be half days with dismissal beginning at 1:45. Spring and Summer Clothing Parents you may have noced that your child/ren have outgrown some clothing over the winter months. As you pull out the spring and summer clothing from the moth balls and boxes, please have your child/ren try them on before wearing them to school for the first me. We all know that styles change from season to season and somemes what we think is appropriate is not always appropriate for school. We like our students to be covered from top to boom and all parts in-between. Girls need to be careful with the hipster pants, crop tops and tank tops. These are not appropriate if parts of the stomach area or shoulders are showing. Shorts and miniskirts need to be at finger ps. Toes should be covered at all mes as well. This is to ensure your child’s safety at gym and recess me. Boys, you also need to be careful as well, wearing baggy pants somemes can hinder you from parcipang in gym and running on the playground. Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Since June is a short month, this will be the last newsletter of the school year. As we wrap up this school year, I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Spring and Summer Clothing

Parents you may have noticed that your child/ren have outgrown some clothing over the winter months. As you pull out the spring and summer clothing from the moth balls and boxes, please have your child/ren try them on before wearing them to school for the first time. We all know that styles change from season to season and sometimes what we think is appropriate is not always appropriate for school. We like our students to be covered from top to bottom and all parts in-between. Girls need to be careful with the hipster pants, crop tops and tank tops. These are not appropriate if parts of the stomach area or shoulders are showing. Shorts and miniskirts need to be at finger tips. Toes should be covered at all times as well. This is to ensure your child’s safety at gym and recess time. Boys, you also need to be careful as well, wearing baggy pants sometimes can hinder you from participating in gym and running on the playground. If you have a concern about clothing please speak with an administrator.

From the Nurse

Guidance Corner In Guidance lessons, students are beginning to work on the final unit of the Second Step

curriculum. This unit is all about problem solving and uses the acronym STEP. S stands for “Say the Problem” in a non-blaming way. T stands for “Think of Solutions” that everyone can agree on. E stands for “Evaluate the Consequences” of each solution. P stands for “Pick the Best Solution”. Using this helps students focus on what the real problem is without arguing with each other and then helps them be able to come up with a solution to the problem that is acceptable for everyone involved. During the lessons, students will practice each of these steps and hopefully become experts in these problem solving steps!

SCHOOL MEDICATION REMINDER:

Students who have medication in the nurse’s office need to pick them up by Wednesday, June 17th by 2:00pm. Medications that are left after that will be discarded per protocol. Parents, please get orders from your child’s Doctor over the summer for the 2015-2016 school year. A new order is required for each school year. The medication order form must match the prescription bottle instructions.

Please bring in your child’s medication order and medication either prior to the first day of school (Open House) or on the first day of school. Doing so allows me to administer any medication that your child may need. You may contact me at 410-677-5135 if you have any concerns regarding your child’s medication.

Incentive

Box Tops is one of America’s largest school earnings loyalty programs. Over 80,000 k-8 schools participate. One of the great things about the program is our school can use Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need. Westside Intermediate received over $1600 this

year. Please continue to clip and save your Box Tops and ask your family, friends, and neighbors to clip and save. It all adds up! Our last collection of Box Tops for this year is scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2015. Please send all of your Box Tops by that date. Thanks for your participation!

Library Books

The end of the school year is soon approaching. Please keep an eye out for books that belong to Westside Intermediate School’s library and/or classroom libraries. If you find any books, send them in as soon as possible with your child to return. Any books that you may find from another school in Wicomico County can also be

returned to our school. We will make sure the book is returned to the correct school. You may also begin to find overdue book slips in your child’s agenda or Friday Folder. Be sure to locate and return those books as soon as possible to keep from owing fines and not being able to get your child’s end of the year report card.

The end of the year is getting closer! All

students should be working to reach 100% of his/

her goal. The cut off date for reaching this goal

is Thursday, May 28th. Students who reach this

goal will spend a half day at the Hebron Carnival.

The carnival incentive is scheduled for Monday,

June 1st. Keep reading!
