What is required?
• NCEA Level 1 requires a minimum of 80 Level 1 credits.
Including
• 10 Literacy credits• 10 Numeracy credits
Credits????
• Each section of work gets allocated a number of credits.
• Normally between 2-6 credits per topic.
• The bigger the topic the greater the number of credits.
• Each subject has between 18-24 credits

• Can be both within a subject and overall.

• Course is a subject
• There are two levels of Endorsement Merit and Excellence.
Certificate Endorsement
Excellence Endorsement
a minimum of 50 Excellence credits
Merit Endorsement
a minimum of 50 Merit and/or Excellence credits
Certificate Endorsement carries over from Year to Year (you can improve your award). Year 10 results can count for Certificate Endorsement.
Course Endorsement• Occurs in One Year (Year 10 results can not be used)
• Must include a minimum of 3 Internal and 3 External credits.
• This means the End of the Year External Examinations must count!
• 14 credits is the target
14 Excellence credits for Excellence Endorsement or
14 Merit and/or Excellence credits for Merit Endorsement
What should I look at?
Total Credits available this year
• Year 10 results, Catch-up Credits, and the results this year.
• Westlake Goals and Results (next slides)- it gives a feel for the level of performance of other students.

• This is a formal statement as to what we want to achieve
• We submit these to the Ministry of Education.

• All students gain a Level 1 Result
• A minimum of 65% of students in group to gain Merit Endorsement.

Extra Credits
• Quality matters - Merit and Excellence Level
• For all students Numeracy and Literacy.

• Extensions. Get them in ahead of time. Most are for events that are school approved.
• Appeals
Marks do change on Appeal. The first appeal that was completed this year the mark changed.
NCEA Pathway
To gain a Level 1 NCEA award you need 80 Level 1 Credits
To gain a Level 2 NCEA award you need 60 Level 2 Credits
and another 20 credits at either Level 1 or 2
To gain a Level 3 NCEA award you need 60 level 3 credits
and another 20 credits at either Level 2 or 3
All awards need 10 Literacy and Numeracy Credits at Level 1
or higher
