Chairman’s Report 2013. Welcome to all our members for this year’s annual report. The 2013 season was one of the most challenging in the club's history. The strength and resolve of a club is most tested through hard times after the results of 2012 and our team and staff should be congratulated on how they have handled themselves this past year. Led by head coach Leo Epifania, the teams' ability to focus on the field and reach the grand final qualifier was an outstanding effort. Leo was ably assisted by a strong group of support staff headed by Steve Reeves as General Manager of the football club, with these 2 individuals driving our success it shows what great results were achieved. In Coordination with this was the Wests Magpies core group of football assistants and support staff with, Dave and Valerie McEwen who did on outstanding job as usual with training and game days. In addition our normal crew with Bluey Schafer ,Jeff Aplitt , Horrie Jowsey, John Harbon, Charlie Tuxford, Kevin Montgomery and Leos trusted on field assistant Con Spanos. And not forgetting our able Physiotherapists Tim Fulcher and Daniel Wainwright, thank you, and also to the head of Prime Physio Greg Williams, many thanks for looking after our team. Also thanks go to Ody Missiakos our Doctor for the past 2 seasons, his professionalism goes without saying; his treatment of Tom Morrison with that nasty broken leg at Cabramatta was something I will never forget. Our congratulations must also go to our mighty Western Suburbs Magpies team, a group that was foisted together and who were so close to that elusive prize that they just could not reach. A big thankyou to that group of men who achieved so much this past year and restored the pride and backbone in the black and whites as a team to be reckoned with. I know that I have had many of the other teams coaches let me know that it was Wests they feared most. There is also congratulations to 4 of our players, who were selected in the Ron Massey representative team that played Fiji, our great forwards Dean Rysko, Sonny Bristow and Tom Morrison and with our flying fullback Sam Aiga. Not only a rep selection for Dean Rysko but a deserved winner of the Ron Massey Cup player of the year, well done. The Wests Magpies junior rep teams of Harold Mathews and S G Ball teams fell just short for another season. These two competitions are the toughest of any junior league anywhere and players must adjust from junior level to this competitive grade. Not an easy task and I am proud to have watched these fine young men play in the black and white Wests jumpers.

Congratulations to all the elite Wests Magpies Junior players in representing the Magpies with your on field efforts and your conduct on and off the field.

I would like to make mention of our Junior NSW rep player of the year Ray Stone who not only a Wests Magpies Harold Mathews player but represented in the NSW U/16 team in the State of Origin series. Watching Ray throughout the season and in that game at ANZ shows what stuff this young man is made of and to have him being a Magpie makes it all special. I am sure he is destined to make the big time, keep an eye out for him in the future.

I would like to acknowledge the junior rep Coaches, and coaching staff in preparing the boys in preseason and through the competition proper. The time and effort you have put in is outstanding, I am sure that most are backing up again this year and we wish you every success, thank you.

As part of our Wests Magpies junior program with Wests Tigers a big thanks go to Ben Rogers and Warren MacDonald of Wests Tigers for their overall involvement with our junior rep squads.

Both Ben and Warren put in many hours with juniors and my thanks to both for their continued support and assistance for the Magpies. It is so important that we have them there to ensure a pathway for our juniors through to the Wests Tigers.

We also cannot leave out the Western Suburbs Junior league that run the entire junior league that produces our rep players, thanks to Julie Luke and the staff who assist with all home games of the rep teams.

This past year our major function was the Heritage night which provided a great celebration of the famous 1963 grand Final between Wests and Saints and was the highlight of the year. The night provided the many Wests supporters with a once in a lifetime show, with our favourites of Arthur Summons and Norm Provan as guests of Honour.

My thanks go to Rick Wayde and Leo Epifania for their hours of work putting the Heritage function together and also to our Club, Wests Ashfield who hosted the event, a fantastic setup within the club and with great food and service to match.

This year the Board was able to bring together a group with strong business experience. Collectively we managed to perform to budget expectations in a range of key revenue metrics. A team effort in putting together several functions that provided additional revenue plus a close scrutiny on managing the football club has led to our best result on the books for quite a long time. We could not have done this without the assistance of Wests Ashfield who again have provided the Major sponsorship for our team, not only that but their expertise in finance and administration has helped us throughout this past season. I would like to thank Simon Cook, Chris Schubert and all the many staff at Wests Ashfield.

Memberships exceeded for 2012 and home-game attendance was up significantly for the year, as were our merchandise sales. Thank you to our loyal supporters.

Given all the challenges faced, in regards to our past season this is an outstanding result.

To all our associated sponsors, many thanks from the Wests Board and Wests team, we are proud of our association with you and look forward to our continuing association.

So what of the future?

Early last year, we set out to turn this Club around by laying out a new strategy for growth together with a commitment to doing what needed to be done to bring that strategy to life. At a board and senior management level, we are putting in place plans to ensure that we continue with the success of 2013 on and off the field and that we have the resources to be competitive with other clubs.

We can’t fix everything overnight but we can get there in time if we remain focused and committed.

When a club is under a lot of pressure to change and focus on winning, it is often easier to see the imperfections rather than the progress being made. Without wanting to gloss over the gaps, I do want to highlight the winning outcomes we achieved this past year.

The return of the great Wests Magpies culture.

Success on the field.

A great relationship with Wests Tigers.

Solid financial performance within budget.

As a result, the changes this club is making are enormous. I know that some of the decisions we’ve made have been very tough on our membership and fan base but we needed to change to be competitive.

There is much work to be done, but we have the team in place to get there.

I am confident that bigger and better things lie ahead for our club.

Regards, Mick Liubinskas Chairman

General Managers Report 2013

On behalf of the Management, Staff and Players of Wests Magpies, I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Directors of both Wests Ashfield Leagues Club and Wests Magpies Rugby League Football Club for their unwavering support. Their friendship and guidance throughout the year was greatly appreciated. I also acknowledge the commitment of Mr Simon Cook, CEO Wests Ashfield and his staff for providing outstanding facilities and service of the highest standard.

Wests Magpies RLFC enjoyed a stellar year reaching the grand final qualifier which was played against eventual 2013 Grand Final winners, Wentworthville. The match was played on 22 September 2013 at Win Jubilee Kogarah Oval. Several of our players took injuries into the game which had a negative impact on the team’s performance towards the end of the second half. Simply put, the injury toll prevented us from having a fit interchange bench; however the boys battled hard before going down 32 to 24. In the lead up semi-final games, Wests Magpies recorded the following wins: 28 – 18 vs. Auburn Warriors 7 September 2013. 24 – 20 vs. Cabramatta Two Blues 14 September 2013. Golden Point win.!!

Pre-Season training. 2014 Head Coach, Leo Epifania started his campaign with pre-season training commencing on Saturday 12 November 2013 at Durant Oval Warwick Farm. Leo and his staff worked very hard during the year to ensure the players were provided with high quality training facilities both at Durant Oval, Warwick Farm and The Whitlam Leisure Centre. Leo has been very busy recruiting and retaining players for 2014 and as a result I am sure we will have another successful season.

Cabramatta International 9’s. Over the weekend of 1 February 2014 Wests Magpies Ron Massey Cup competed in the Cabramatta 9’s competition. The hit out gave Leo the opportunity of seeing how his new recruits and those trialling for contracts perform under match conditions. Although the boys did not make it to the finals, they went very well.

2013 NSWRL Ron Massey Cup Representative Team. Wests Magpies players Dean Rysko, Sam Aiga, Tom Morrison and Sonny Bristow were selected to play against Fiji Warriors at St Marys Stadium on 12/10/13. The team was too strong for the visitors winning 58 – 16. To have so many players selected in a representative team is an indication of the hard work put into the development of our players by Leo Epifania and his staff.

Support Staff. I have stated many times that the backbone of any Club is its volunteers and supporters. We are indeed lucky to have so many committed men and women who are prepared to give up countless hours to support our Club and for that I thank them.

Administration assistant. I welcome Mrs Valerie Mc Ewan to Wests Magpies as the Clubs new administration assistant. Valerie has been a strapper/trainer at Wests Magpies for many years and is an asset to our Club and RMC team.

Medical and other support. Dr Ody Missiakos, Dr Arash Nabavi, Ms Carman Raco, Ms Allina Inkster HCF, Tim Foulcher, Daniel Wainwright and Greg Williams, PRIME Physiotherapy, all play a very important role in the treatment of our players, ensuring they return to the field in a timely fashion. We also acknowledge Campbelltown and Liverpool City Councils for their friendship. In recent months Liverpool City Council improved the overall facilities at Durant Oval and for that I sincerely thank them.

Cheer girls. These young ladies, under the direction of Ms Kirsten Tulloch performed at our home and away games. They provided high quality entertainment during the half time interval and really added to the atmosphere of the day. Great effort girls!

Wests Magpies Archives. James and Alma Mc Whinnie, Ben Fischer and the other volunteers work hard to ensure the Magpie spirit will remain for generations to come.

Golf Day – Camden Valley Golf Resort 14/08/13. The day was a great success with all monies raised used to develop our up and coming rugby league players.

Wests Magpies Harold Matthews and SG Ball gear presentation night. On 4 February 2014 I attended Wests Leagues Club Campbelltown for the presentation to our junior representative players their playing gear for the coming season. The players were professionally turned out with the night supported by their family and friends. I thank Ben Rogers and Warren Mc Donnell for the invitation and acknowledge all of their hard work leading into the 2014 season.

Yours in sport,

James Mcwhinnie (JW): gave information regarding “skinny” Macmillan as a great Wests Magpies player. He advised people like the word Magpie and wondered why TV stations refer to Tigers all the time. Tedesco proved Wests can produce players. Asked why the board cannot put out the truth about ongoing issues at Wests Tigers. A news bulletin would be good. ML replied that the board is bound by confidentiality on particular issues.

Julie Romero: asked to capture in minutes that she did not resign but Wests Ashfield withdrew her nomination. ML apologised and will amend in 2013

Paul Stamoulis (PS): Asked if 2013 State Cup conditions met or not met. ML advised all conditions have been met. Are Wests Magpies the district club in Southwest. ML advised yes. Wests Tigers (WT) is the joint Venture name, with Ryde Eastwood (RE) sponsor of WT SC (STATE CUP) team. Why is not Wests Ashfield (WAL) on back of jersey. ML advised that RE provide a sponsorship deal with WT. It appears the branding is more to Balmain, WAL need to recognise that. For the WT 2014 jersey design will Wests have an input. ML advised that they have already had input to the design. All WT players are members of Balmain football club, how has that happened? Can it be checked. ML advised he will check. And also WT players to be members of Wests Magpies.

Ben Fisher: explained that anyone who plays for a club must be a member of that club, as confirmed by NSWRL. ML advised that Wests players are members of Wests Magpies.

Rick Wayde (RW) in reference to Balmain badges, it could have been that someone paid for membership. Also advised that the Wests group is united in their cause for Wests Tigers.

Bruce Sacre (BS) (262) WISHED Wests every success on the golf day , but would require the date and time of the event.

Graeme Szynal (GS) (366) Advised of many positives. On line membership via website going well. Congratulations on Wests Magpies 2013 jersey. Volunteer base setup via Keith Topolski , all going well. Fanatics group back and involved with Wests. Thanks to Ed Topolski for great work on Website with information and news.

Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Limited

ML advised it may be marketing persons who chose colour.

Scott Morris (SM): How long is arrangement with WT and State Cup? ML advised we have the right to enter into any completion. • SC team conditions are for 2 years. • Wests are committed to RM Cup for 2014 • Wests operate effectively with WT.

Pat Mathews: query on Harold Matts halfback Potts not being signed. ML advised he will check with WT

Dennis Poole: advised Dundas u/16 in Balmain comp no other teams? ML advised that is an issue for Balmain JRLFC.

Steve Hartas (196) there is no point in SC team for Wests if we cannot have any players via WT. ML advised that WT players will drop back to Wests via WT SC team.

Ben Fisher: have Wests decided on next year’s team in SC comp, last year at AGM, the board promised to call a meeting prior to 30th June, but called info meeting later in year. Members at that meeting voted against SC team with WT. The board is doing everything to help Balmain. Are Wests putting any money into Wests Tigers SC team. ML advised that we worked with WT to form SC team on certain conditions. WAL only provided a grant for RM cup team for Wests. Ben Fisher: the board is ignoring members wishes as members do not want a WT state cup team. ML advises that the WT SC team has conditions and is not a merger of Wests and Balmain but solely WT. WAL only to fund RM cup team for Wests.

Rick Wayde: the real issue was an incorrect motion at the info meeting. Wests do not do business with Balmain. It was a WT decision to run a SC team Wests made a decision not to run a SC team.

Julie Romero: Did Wests express displeasure at the RE logo sponsorship? ML advised that RE are a sponsor and have an entitlement to do business with WT. Simon Cook: advised that front of Jersey is about $800k sponsorship Also advised RE sponsorship for SC team is over market value.

Clare Burgess: asked if WAL is major sponsor for RM Cup team. ML advised yes, contributing $200k plus admin and junior reps outsourcing for a combined $350k

Keith Topolski: (386) Please follow up on Balmain and WT membership and where does that money come from? WT marketing? it is favouring Balmain and Leichardt oval each time whereas Campbelltown does not seem to be promoted as good. The James Bond promotion was big. Need to point out to WT that there are 2 sides of JV. ML advised he will check. No further questions in general business. ML called meeting to a close

Notes to the Financial Statement For the Year Ended 31 October 2013

1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies

The principal accounting policies adopted in the preparation of the financial statements are set out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all the years presented, unless otherwise stated.

New, revised or amending Accounting Standards and Interpretations adopted

The Company has adopted all of the new, revised or amending Accounting Standards and Interpretations issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) that are mandatory for the current reporting period.

The Company has early adopted AASB 1053 'Application of Tiers of Australian Accounting Standards,' AASB 2010-02 'Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from Reduced Disclosure Requirements' and later amending Standards, as relevant. No other new, revised or amending Accounting Standards or Interpretations that are not yet mandatory have been early adopted.

Any significant impact on the accounting policies of the Company from the adoption of these Accounting Standards and Interpretations are disclosed in the relevant accounting policy. The adoption of these Accounting Standards and Interpretations did not have any significant impact on the financial performance or position of the Company.

The following Accounting Standards and Interpretations are most relevant to the Company:

AASB 1053 Application of Tiers of Australian Accounting Standards

The Company has early adopted AASB 1053 from 1 November 2009. This standard establishes a differential financial reporting framework consisting of two Tiers of reporting requirements for preparing general purpose financial statements, being Tier 1 Australian Accounting Standards and Tier 2 Australian Accounting Standards - Reduced Disclosure Requirements. The Company being classed as Tier 2 continues to apply the full recognition and measurements requirements of Australian Accounting Standards with substantially reduced disclosure in accordance with AASB 2010-2 and later amending Standards, as relevant.

AASB 2010-2 Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from Reduced Disclosure Requirements

The Company has early adopted AASB 2010-2 from 1 November 2009. 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (continued) AASB 2011-9 Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards - Presentation of Items of Other Comprehensive Income

The Company has applied AASB 2011-9 amendments from 1 November 2012. The amendments requires grouping together of items within other comprehensive income on the basis of whether they will eventually be 'recycled' to the profit or loss (reclassification adjustments). The change provides clarity about the nature of items presented as other comprehensive income and the related tax presentation. The amendments also introduced the term 'Statement of profit or loss and other comprehensive income' clarifying that there are two discrete sections, the profit or loss section (or separate statement of profit or loss) and other comprehensive income section.

Basis of preparation

These general purpose financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards - Reduced Disclosure Requirements and Interpretations issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the Corporations Act 2001. These financial statements do not comply with International Financial Reporting Standards as issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).

The financial report consists of the financial statements, notes to the financial statements and the Directors’ declaration.

The financial statements are presented in Australian dollars, which is the Company's functional and presentation currency.

The Company is a not for profit entity for the purpose of preparing these financial statements, which means that in preparing the financial report, the Company has applied the exemptions available for not for profit entities.

The financial report was authorised for issue on 28 January 2014, in accordance with a resolution of Directors. The Directors have the power to amend and reissue the financial report.

Historical cost convention

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Critical accounting estimates

The preparation of the financial statements requires the use of certain critical accounting estimates. It also requires management to exercise its judgement in the process of applying the Company's accounting policies. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and various other factors that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances, the results of which form the basis of making the judgements about carrying values of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. Actual results may differ from these estimates.

The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised if the revision affects only that period or in the period of the revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods.

The areas involving a higher degree of judgement or complexity, or areas where assumptions and estimates are significant to the financial statements are disclosed in Note 1(m).

1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (continued)

(a) Revenue Recognition – Note 2

Revenues are recognised at fair value of the consideration received or receivable net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST) payable to the taxation authority. Exchanges of goods or services of the same nature and value without any cash consideration are not recognised as revenues.

Sale of Goods

Revenue from the sale of goods comprises revenue earned from the provision of other goods and is recognised (net of rebates, returns, discounts and other allowances) on the point of delivery as this corresponds to the transfer of significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods.

Rendering of Services

Revenue from rendering services comprises revenue from gaming facilities together with other services to members and other patrons of the club and is recognised when the services are provided.

Interest Revenue

Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest rate method, which, for floating rate financial assets is the rate inherent in the instrument.

(b) Other Income

Sale of Property, Plant and Equipment

The gain or loss on disposal of property, plant and equipment is calculated as the difference between the carrying amount of the asset at the time of disposal and the net proceeds on disposal (including incidental costs) and is recognised as other income at the date control of the asset passes to the buyer.

Grants

Grants are recognised at their fair value where there is a reasonable assurance that the grant will be received and all attached conditions will be complied with.

(c) Going Concern

The financial report has been prepared on a going concern basis, which contemplates continuity of normal trading activities and the realisation of assets and settlement of liabilities in the normal course of business.

The Company is reliant on grants provided by Western Suburbs Leagues Club Limited (Wests Ashfield) for its on-going operations and Wests Ashfield has committed to provide the Company grants amounting to $297,000 for the financial year ending 31 October 2014. Wests Ashfield will also continue to provide administrative support in managing the operations of the Company.

(d) Goods and Services Tax

Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST), except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Taxation Office. In these circumstances, the GST is recognised as part of the cost of acquisition of the asset or as part of the expense.

Receivables and payables in the Statement of Financial Position are shown inclusive of GST.

The net amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the Australian Taxation Office is included as a current asset or liability in the Statement of Financial Position.

Cash flows are included in the Statement of Cash Flows on a gross basis, except for the GST component of investing and financing activities, which are disclosed as operating cash flows.

Commitments and contingencies are disclosed net of the amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the Australian Taxation Office.

(e) Income Tax

The Company is exempt from income tax under the provisions of Section 50-45 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997, by virtue of the fact that the Company is a sporting club established for the purpose of providing sporting facilities to its members.

(f) Impairment of Assets

Non-financial assets are reviewed for impairment whenever events or changes in circumstances indicate that the carrying amount may not be recoverable. An impairment loss is recognised for the amount by which the asset's carrying amount exceeds its recoverable amount.

Recoverable amount is the higher of an asset’s fair value less costs to sell and value-in-use. The value-in-use is the present value of the estimated future cash flows relating to the asset using a pre-tax discount rate specific to the asset or cash-generating unit to which the asset belongs. Assets that do not have independent cash flows are grouped together to form a cash-generating unit.

(g) Cash and Cash Equivalents – Note 4

Cash and cash equivalents includes cash on hand, deposits held at call with financial institutions, other short-term, highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash and which are subject to an insignificant risk of changes in value.

(h) Trade and Other Receivables – Note 5

Trade debtors and other receivables represent the principal amounts due at balance date plus accrued interest and less, where applicable, any unearned income and provisions for doubtful accounts.

(i) Inventories – Note 6

Inventories are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Costs are assigned on the basis of weighted average costs.

(j) Property, Plant and Equipment – Note 7

All plant and equipment is stated at historical cost less depreciation and accumulated impairment losses. Historical cost includes expenditure that is directly attributable to the acquisition of the items.

Subsequent costs are included in the assets’ carrying amount or recognised as a separate asset, as appropriate, only when it is probable that future economic benefits associated with the item will flow to the Company and the cost of the item can be measured reliably. All other repairs and maintenance are charged to the Statement of profit and Loss and Other Comprehensive Income during the financial period in which they are incurred.

The depreciable amount of all fixed assets is depreciated using the straight line/ diminishing value methods to allocate their cost or revalued amounts, net of their residual values, over their estimated useful lives, as follows:

Furniture and Fittings 10% - 20% Gymnasium Equipment 25% - 33% Motor Vehicles 25% Office Equipment 25%

The assets’ residual values and useful lives are reviewed, and adjusted if appropriate, at the end of the reporting period.

An asset’s carrying amount is written down immediately to its recoverable amount if the asset’s carrying amount is greater than its estimated recoverable amount.

Gains and losses on disposals are determined by comparing proceeds with carrying amount. These are included in the Statement Profit and Loss and Other Comprehensive Income. When revalued assets are sold the amounts included in the revaluation reserve relating to those assets are transferred to retained earnings.

(k) Trade and Other Payables – Note 8

These amounts represent liabilities for goods and services provided to the Company prior to the end of the financial year which are unpaid. Due to their short-term nature they are measured at amortised cost and are not discounted. The amounts are unsecured and are usually paid within 30 days of recognition.

(l) Employee Benefits

Wages and Salaries, Annual Leave

Liabilities for wages and salaries, including non-monetary benefits and annual leave expected to be settled within 12 months of the reporting date are recognised in other payables with respect to employees’ services up to the reporting date and are measured at the amounts expected to be paid

Superannuation Plan

The Company contributes to several defined contribution superannuation plans. Contributions are recognised as an expense as they are made. The Company has no legal or constructive obligation to fund any deficit.

(m) Critical Accounting Judgements, Estimates and Assumptions

The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements, estimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts in the financial statements. Management continually evaluates its judgements and estimates in relation to assets, liabilities, contingent liabilities, revenue and expenses. Management bases its judgements, estimates and assumptions on historical experience and on other various factors, including expectations of future events that management believes to be reasonable under the circumstances. The resulting accounting judgements and estimates will seldom equal the related actual results. The judgements, estimates and assumptions that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next financial year are discussed below.

Estimation of Useful Lives of Assets

The Company determines the estimated useful lives and related depreciation charges for its plant and equipment. The useful lives could change significantly as a result of technical innovations or some other event. The depreciation and amortisation charge will increase where the useful lives are less than previously estimated lives, or technically obsolete or non-strategic assets that have been abandoned or sold will be written off or written down.
