INTERVALS The West Rim Trail is a 30-mile-long hiking trail located adjacent to the western rim of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon. The trail's northern terminus is on State Forest land approximately one mile south of U.S. Route 6 on the Colton Road near the village of Ansonia. The southern terminus is on Pennsylvania Route 414 two miles south of Blackwell. Care should be taken in building campfires. All fires should be extinguished before breaking camp. Campfires are Prohibited from March 1 through May 25 and from October 1 through December 1 without authorization from the District Forester and are not permitted during periods of HIGH FIRE DANGER. Only primitive camping is permitted. Backpack campers do not need a camping permit if they camp no more than one night at any site. Forest Picnic Area or within 100 yards of buildings. The water from springs and streams should not be used for drinking purposes. If possible obtain your supply from a source known to be safe. If in doubt about the quality of your drinking water, always boil or chemically treat it. Please do not bury any trash. Pack it in, Pack it out. Thank you and have a nice hike. Information on purchasing a detailed trail guide for the West Rim Trail is available from: Pine Creek Press R.D.#4, Box 130B Wellsboro, PA 16901 The Grand Canyon section of the Pine Creek Trail extends approximately 18 miles between Darling Run access area and the village of Blackwell. Part of a 62-mile Rail-Trail conversion project, this is the first section opened for use. Bicycling, hiking and cross-county skiing are the primary uses of this trail. A second lane is available for equestrian use on nearly nine miles between Ansonia and Tiadaghton. Horses access the trail just north of Route 6. Motorized recreational vehicle use is not permitted. Permits are required for all camping within the Pine Creek Gorge. A twelve-mile section of the Pine Creek Gorge received national acclaim in 1964 when it was designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. The West Rim Trail is a 30-mile-long hiking trail located adjacent to the western rim of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon. The trail's northern terminus is on State Forest land approximately one mile south of U.S. Route 6 on the Colton Road near the village of Ansonia. The southern terminus is on Pennsylvania Route 414 two miles south of Blackwell.
