    Scottish Vocational Qualifications

    SVQs are work-based qualifications,

    designed and developed by Sector skills

    Councils (SSCs) through consultation with

    employers and practitioners.

    West Lothian College provides:

    Advice regarding appropriate S/NVQ

    awards including level, structure and

    cost

    A personal assessor and an individual

    assessment plan for each employee

    Reports on progress and achievement

    to employees and employers where

    appropriate

    Regular pre-arranged planning and

    assessment visits with employees and

    assessor

    Email and telephone access to guidance

    and support from the College assessor

    Access to a range of support facilities

    within the College

    Apprenticeships

    As employees, apprentices work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. With

    the support of an assessor from West Lothian College they will achieve SVQ and Modern

    Apprenticeship certification. If you have or are an employee aged 16 24 please call as we

    may have funding available.

    Funding

    The potential returns from increased profits make training a smart investment. There are

    a variety of government, council, private and European schemes that provide financial

    support for businesses.

    Individuals may be eligible for ILA funding to pay for all or part of the training. Applicants

    should be resident in Scotland and earning less than 22,000 per annum. Apply at www.

    If you are studying 30-119 SCQF credits per year and earn less than 25,000 per annum, you

    may be eligible for SAAS funding towards the cost of your course. For more information

    SVQ Level 2 - Social Services and Health Care - Personal Care WorkerThis qualification satisfies the requirements of the SSSC for the purpose of registering support workers in a care setting. Delivery takes place in the workplace. 675 6 months ILA

    SVQ Level 3 - Social Services and Health CareThis qualification satisfies the requirements of the SSSC for the purposes of registering practitioners working in a care setting. 900 8-10 months PFG

    SVQ Level 4 - Social Services and Health CareThis qualification satisfies one of the requirements of the SSSC for the purpose of registering managers who work in a care setting. West Lothian College also recommends this qualification for deputy managers.

    SVQ Level 4 - Leadership and Management in Care ServicesThis is the preferred qualification by the SSSC for managers in a Care setting who requires a management qualification to satisfy the purposes of registration. 1500 10-12 months PFG

    PDA Health and Social Care SupervisionThis qualification contributes towards meeting the required standards of the SSSC for supervisors. 200 3 months ILA

    SVQ Level 3 ManagementThis course is intended for those new to management and those at the first level of management. 600 8-10 months PFG

    SVQ Level 4 ManagementThe Management Level 4 qualification is based on the standards developed by the Management StandardsCentre in conjunction with National Occupational Standards (NOS). It is suitable for individuals working in a management role that encompasses a wide range of work activities with a high degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.

    ILM Level 5 Certificate in ManagementThis course is for practising or aspiring middle managers. It is designed to give a solid foundation in knowledge and skills necessary for a management role. 695

    BA in Business Management (accredited by and payable to Napier University)This course is delivered at West Lothian College over 2 evenings each week over a period of 16 months. The entry requirements are an SVQ Level 4 in Management or equivalent. 1830 16 months PFG

    SVQ Level 2 Business Improvement Techniques (Process)This qualification is for employees involved in business at all levels who require a fundamental understanding of business improvement practices. 550 9 months ILA

    SVQ Level 4 Learning and DevelopmentTo provide a recognised qualification for those who are involved in the delivery of learning programmes to individuals and groups. The award is more concerned with the facilitation of a broader range of learning opportunities and the contribution to an organisations learning and development strategy.

    CIH (Chartered Institute of Housing) Level 2 Housing PracticeThis qualification is particularly suited to Housing professionals operating within the Social Housing Sector. The Certificate is also suitable for staff from either a Customer Services or Housing Management background, who wants to achieve a recognised professional qualification.

This qualification is suited to those who are fairly new to an administrative role or who would benefit from revisiting the requirements of the role.

    SVQ Level 1 Customer Service This qualification is suited to those who are new to customer service and will provide candidates with a qualification which verifies that they are trained at this entry level. 250 3 months ILA

    SVQ Level 2 Contact Centre OperationsThis SVQ Level 2 is aimed at call centre operatives. The qualification assesses their ability to perform a number of activities undertaken in their job role. In addition they will demonstrate their knowledge as set out by the national standard for call centre operatives.

    Diploma Management and LeadershipThis is a fully online qualification that allows learners to study at any time and from any place. The Diploma is an advanced award which covers strategic management and leadership issues at an organisational level. Completion of the Diploma allows articulation to Edinburgh Napier BA in Management or, BA in Business and Enterprise degree.

    The majority of courses are eligible for funding towards the cost of training. ILA 200 or SAAS Part-time Fee Grant (PFG) of 500.
