Survey Background
• Overarching Objective:• Develop and implement a communications strategy that results
in greater awareness and understanding of issues/information impacting the school district among target constituents
• Survey Objective:• Establish a baseline metric to gauge parent/community:
• awareness of issues currently impacting the school district• view on school district priorities
• Identify preferred channels and frequency of communications
Constituents Surveyed
• Parents > of current/former West Geauga students
• Parents > of current/former students attending private school or home schooled
• Local residents/community members
Response Rate
• Survey was sent directly to 1,942 email addresses > 451 responses generated (23.2%)
• Inbound link to survey from outside sources including ads, news articles, etc.
> 105 responses
Total > 556 survey responses
Demographics
• Parents of children currently attending WG schools were main responders
• Good mix of parent representation from all schools
• 27.5% of parent respondents are WG alumni
• 84.4% would recommend the WG school district to other families
• 64% have lived in the school district for over 10 years
• 91% of respondents are registered voters
Overarching Themes
• Constituent education/information• administrative issues/financial transparency/accountability
• Frequent/transparent communications• what is being/has been done by the school board and
administration • promote successes that unite/energize the community
• Building trust• quality of education is first and foremost
General Findings
• Validates the need for proactive and consistent flow of communications – school district needs to be the primary source of providing/driving information to parents/community• Honest and straightforward messaging from the School Board• Create environment that fosters parent/community engagement• Reduce/avoid past perception issues and inaccurate information

• Continue to build on the established benchmark, conduct another parent/community opinion survey towards end of 2012
