F. Changarritto with Lys SantamariaMexic-Arte MuseumWestWeekends–12-3pm

Lys Santamaria was born in Colombia and raised in both Canada and the United States. Her beadwork is primarily inspired by her travels abroad and by influential women in her life. She enjoys using traditional beading techniques that reflect her cultural background. The repetitive motion of her work allows her time to meditate and each bead is woven with intention.

Changarrito is an art vending cart, conceptualized by artist Maximo Gonzalez as an alternative to the official gallery selection presented by the Mexican cultural authorities. Faithful to their original, informal spirit, Changarritos exist throughout the world, evolving as forums for the sale of original artwork to the general public, presentation of public programs, special curatorial projects, individual and collective exhibitions.

1. Gabriel Frampton – Austin Public Library: Little Walnut Creek BranchPaper, mylar, mathematics

Inspired by nature and mathematics, I created a novel form of modular origami composed of interlocking woven strips. This approach allows for absolute symmetry and high durability; the method of construction ensures that the structures will never sag or unravel, and will even support weight. My ambition is to scale up my designs to create architectural spaces, giving mathematical forms permanence.

My goal as a painter is to create images that communicate my feelings about the mystery and transient beauty of our planet. I rely on visual memory, dreams, and emotions for these images of natural abstract organic form which are often based in “reality”, but are imaginary to the degree that I seek to capture a feeling about the subject and communicate it to the viewer.

Notes on being now. An image, thought or feeling captures me, pulls me into now. I like the pieces to seem as if they are living, moving on the canvas. Most of my work is oil on canvas or board. Viewers have described my pieces as energetically positive, colorful, powerful. I have a variety of subject matter: abstracts, figurative, landscapes and still lifes. I love visitors, come be one!!!

Finding Bevo’s cousin keeping company with a donkey at Marbridge started my love of the area shortly after moving to Austin. The Hill Country grabbed me and what I like I paint. The western sky and shadow contrast on any sunny day is what I love to convey. My photos are in my studio to inspire me every day. I paint in series in acrylic and oil.

My current works are depictions of the ocean, in abstract form. Through color and stroke I am attempting to capture the energy and beauty which resides within it. In general, I approach each piece by breaking down the visual world into shapes and color, and strive to invoke an emotional shift within the viewer.

My work attempts to create a notion of strength through the use of daring color and inviting texture. When a viewer must resist the urge to touch a piece because she simply wants to experience its energy, I have achieved some success. When the artwork continues to impact the viewer causing her to examine it whilst sensing joy, excitement and wonder, I have achieved my intention as an artist.

I paint a very focused subject matter but the surrounding area around my subject takes on a wonderful abstract theme. I have a general idea of what the background will look like, but it can change during the actual rendering. It’s what I see in that moment in the background. Eventually, it reveals itself to me. So what I’m seeing can be completely different from what another person might see.

Nature is beautiful, scary and weird. We live in nature, but feel apart from it. Clay is a great vehicle for exploring the forms of nature and artifice, how the hard edges of the inanimate meet the softer contours of life. The intersections are interesting and typically where my art lives.

I paint portraits to depict a person’s inner wisdom. I am inspired by the isolated moment, the look before an emotional turn, and signs of hard won experience. My art is a synthesis of the optimistic. I want to show a hidden depth of stories within stories that come together to create a whole. These works are eclectic by nature and derive their form from patterns, improbable vintage, and sometimes a world of endless color. I invite the viewer to look into the canvas and find the intimate spaces within the larger whole, to read the narrative of it’s inhabitants story.

Why Studio Cygnet? It’s a reference to the story about the ugly duckling that turns out to be a beautiful swan. My tools for self expression are playing, experimenting, and day dreaming. Ideas develop in layers of glass powder and enamels, evolving in an open conversation between the piece and myself - some dialogs louder than others. The results are abstract fragments of this journey, drawing attention to movement, balance and harmony.

I am drawn to objects and subject matter that reflect the feminine spirit. Frequently, I choose settings or views that depict a glimpse of a woman’s daily routine or personal attire. Once the memory is recalled, it becomes a shared experience with the artist - part of our collective feminine mythology.

My paintings comprise a diary of representational and abstract images. I abstract out of scene what is important to me. I love different sorts of light: In the winter, I paint in my back yard in a plastic greenhouse that diffuses the light wonderfully. In the summer, I paint outside in the direct sun, or more comfortably in the shade! I have a BFA from Alfred University, Alfred, NY.

My works utilize printmaking techniques such as monotype, solar plate, intaglio, gelatin print, and collagraph. Often I incorporate a found object to give my print more significance. I enjoy monotype because I can lose myself in the spontaneity of the moment. My intention is to create soft ethereal-like inspirational images and create space for the viewer to experience this ethereal feeling.

313. Lee Ross – Back Painted GlassStudio 103Backpaintedglass

I am a visual artist who is interested in nontraditional applications of acrylic painting. Currently my work is painting on the back of glass with acrylic paints. To work directly on glass, the composition needs to be reversed, and the order of the layering is switched; from bottom/back to front/top. All images are lit from the front unleashing, the “life” in the paintings.

Artist Studio820 Shelby Ln, Unit #103 – [email protected]:6

314. Saybra GilesMixedmediaphotocollage

I take photographs of small things: found objects, tiny creatures, minutiae we really don’t notice. I’m drawn to small creatures within their own ecosystems and to objects that become lost in the background. I create collages using image transfers from my photographs. My work explores relationships between human nature and the symbolism presented by small creatures or objects.

315. Koren LeClairSilver,gold,orcopperjewelrywithwood,enamelandresin

A former graphic designer, my jewelry combines modern design elements such as clean lines, bold colors, and organic shapes with the ancient techniques of metalsmithing. Working primarily in sterling silver with occasional uses of copper and gold, I love to incorporate unique materials such as enamel, resin and wood. Favorite techniques include box construction and inlay.

316. Rebecca Wood – guest of Saybra Giles & Koren LeClairCharcoal, watercolor, acrylic, ink, printmaking

The things that motivate me in the making of art are simple: happiness, fun, and unexpected beauty. While this certainly pertains to subject matter, it also relates to the process, even the struggle, of making art.

317. Brian PhillipsSalvagedwoodartist

Self taught salvaged wood artist. I create my work out of discarded materials. I try to have fun with the imagery as well as the titles. I want to open up my studio for people to see where I come everyday to create the work I make. It’s a converted shipping container, finished out with salvaged items. I hope you can swing by and say hi! (Dogs welcome!) HAVE FUN • ENJOY LIFE

318. Matthew WarrenSculpture,printmaking,painting,mixedmedia,digital

I like making neat stuff. I like taking things apart. I like finding new and interesting ways of utilizing and extending the life of otherwise overlooked, expendable materials. Like a hip hop artist samples old jazz, funk and soul records for their tracks, I sample technology, industrial design, manufacturing and popular culture for my works. Math and geometry too. Also humor and comedy.

319. Marilyn SkalbergOil,acrylic,ink

At once playful and unsettling, these diminutive paintings are metaphors for questions about life: what we see and what we know. The owl is a complex symbol of protection, darkness, wisdom, and foreboding. In this series, expressionless owls show up as masked stand-ins shrouded in protective human garb. Keeping silent. Watching. Marilyn Skalberg is an American artist that works in painting, drawing, and print.

322. Ann Alva Wieding – Austin Art Refugees Sound:Vision – Space Rehearsal & RecordingPhotography,collage

I am a photographer that is captivated by the patterns that emanate from nature. I strive to capture and display the visual drama that is the interplay between light and color. I focus my lens on a moment in time where the light emanating from the Sun and the Moon may never be the same again. I then printed on metal in order to share the radiance of the light from that moment with the viewer.

Temporary Exhibition7915 Manchaca Rd – [email protected]:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

323. Dave McClinton – Austin Art RefugeesSound:Vision – Space Rehearsal & RecordingDigitalcollage

My work is under the direct influence of my 20+ year career as a graphic designer. I’m either decorating with landscapes or speaking on cultural issues with human figures and faces. I want to show you something familiar and then alter your perspective. And honestly, beyond that, I want you to enjoy what you’re looking at. I can’t help but share what’s in my head.
