WEST AFRICA BIODIVERSITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE
SOCIAL MEDIA REPORT: OCTOBER 1, 2017 – MARCH 31, 2018
The West Africa Biodiversity and Climate Change (WA BiCC) program is a five-year program
funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that aims to improve
conservation and climate-resilient, low-emissions growth across West Africa. Although regional
in scope, WA BiCC focuses on targeted geographical areas to improve governance and policy
over critical natural and human systems.
The program leverages on social media as a communication channel to reach out to the audience
about activities and engagements. WA BiCC has Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn with current followers of 17427, 4735 and 512 respectively. Impressions and engagements fluctuated because
of activity surges and dips in certain months. Our pages received special attention from the official
accounts for CITES, Bonn Convention, PangolinSG, World Wildlife Day and others. The pages
also did campaigns on CMS/COP12, PRCM Forum, World Pangolin Day, Species Working
Groups, World Wildlife Day, among others. Find below details of the pages’ engagements and
interaction from the date range stipulated.
WA BiCC’s Facebook page now has 17,457 total number of likes, dropping by 73 since October
1st, 2017. Our reach peaked at 20,284 on October 17th. People interacted (likes, shares,
comments) with the page within the report period 37,676 times. The page’s posts had a total of
338,869 impressions within the five-month period. The page earned high interaction during events
where the number of posts were increased through live posting.
Our Twitter handle @wabiccnews, has a total follower of 4754. The handle is active with an
impression total of 339,500 and engagement total of of 10,336 liking, retweeting or mentioning
our posts and handles over the past six months.

There was an increase in followers on WA BiCC’s LinkedIn page by 414 from October 2017 to
March 2018, bringing the total to 531. The page has also increased monthly impressions, bringing
the total impressions of the six-month period to 31,854.
