Medium

Primer and structure. The LUKAS primers and structure pas-tes are ideally suited to create different substrates for gouache painting. The use of LUKAS Gesso provides a mildly absorbant “half chalk” surface.

Better adhesion of gouache paint. By adding the binding agent LUKAS Gum Arabic to the colour, you can achieve a bet-ter adhesion of the gouache to the substrate.

Painting of diffi cult to wet surfaces. For some painting sur-face (for example, slightly greasy or poorly absorbent papers) LUKAS wetting agent is used for pre-treatment.

Surfaces that should not be painted. LUKAS covering agent for watercolours, also known as „Masking Fluid“, can be used to cover surfaces. The surfaces treated with this medium do not absorb any colour. After painting, simply rub off with a soft eraser or with your fi ngers.

Dilute and dissolve. Gouache colour is usually diluted with plain water only. Normally gouache colours remain watersolub-le even after drying. By adding LUKAS shellac soap to the co-lour you can reduce this water solubility, so that a better over-painting is possible.

Protecting the surface. If a fi nished gouache painting is to be protected by a varnish, then the LUKAS spray varnish matt, LUKAS STUDIO acrylic varnish matt as well as the liquid variant LUKAS CRYL varnish matt are ideal. Be mindful that varnishes change the velvety surface characteristic of the gouache. When using varnishes, therefore, a preliminary test should always be carried out so that the image does not become gray or the gouache becomes too glossy

Mixing techniques

Gouache colours present excellent inter-mixability. They are therefore ideal for the colour theory and to create very personal favorite colours. The important basic colours (primary colours) are primary yellow (yellow), primary blue (cyan) and primary red (magenta).

Secondary colours. If you mix two of the primary colours to-gether in a ratio of 1:1, you get the secondary colours red-oran-ge, green and violet.

LUKAS STUDIO GOUACHE

· The perfect paint for the colour theory

· Pronounced colour intensity and highest lightfastness

· Excellent mixing behaviour and fl ow property

· Resistant to wipe and eraser· Water dilutable but remains

water soluble even after drying

· Dries to an opaque, velvet matt fi nish

A high opacity is the key feature of an excellent gouache colour. LUKAS STUDIO GOUACHE fulfi ls this requirement by using the most refi ned pigments. The colour has a very good mixing behaviour, which makes it ideal for the colour theory. All shades have a very good to excellent lightfastness (6 to 8 on the blue wool scale). The use of selec-ted vegetable oils ensures excel-lent properties of LUKAS STUDIO GOUACHE. Suitable on all type of absorbent and non-absorbent surfa-ces (paper, cardboard, canvas, etc.).

All shades of the LUKAS STUDIO GOUACHE are available in 20 ml tu-bes, a selection of 12 shades is also available in 75 ml tubes. A variety of sets of LUKAS STUDIO GOUACHE are also available.

Professional-Quality

Tertiary colors. If you take two primary tones and mix them in a ratio of 2: 1, you get another 6 shades. In this way one gra-dually comes to the whole spectrum of the rainbow.

Fine Artists’ Gouache

Since 1862, Dr. Fr. Schoenfeld and LUKAS have been a sign of top qua-lity artist’s colours. At the turn of the 20th century, a signifi cant brand po-licy decision was made, which still characterizes the company‘s repre-sentation: The patron saint of pain-ters „Saint Lukas“ became the ep-onym for all LUKAS products. Since that time, people speak of LUKAS artist colours. Even today, Saint Lu-kas is the symbol of the company.

To this day numerous artists all over the world trust the 150-year-old tra-dition of our house. The constant pursuit of superior product quality meant that over the centuries, well-known artists trusted in the quality of LUKAS artists‘ colours. Even Vincent van Gogh, as can be proved, has used the products of our house - the well known master ordered the po-pular colour extra from Düsseldorf. LUKAS started with watercolour and oil colours and then extended to acrylic paints and a large selection of mediums and accessories.
