Na- tional Physical Fitness and Sport Month is a great time to spend the word about the benefits of getting active. Here are just a few benefits of physical activity: Children and adolescents - Physical activity can im- prove muscular fitness and bone and heart health. Adults– Physical activity can lower risk for heart dis- ease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. Older adults– Physical activity can lower the risk of falls and improve cognitive functioning (like learning and judgment skills). Communities, health professionals, and families can work to- gether to create opportunities for everyone to get more physi- cal activity. Make a differences: Spread the word about fun ways to get moving! How can a National Physical Fitness and Sports Month make a difference? Want to join a community fitness challenge? Now is Your chance! FITNESS CHALLENGE INFO:

-12 Week Weight Loss/Fitness Challenge (June 1- August 28, 2015)

- The cost is $15 per participant.

- 1st place winner will take home 50% of participant pot, 2nd place-30%, 3rd place-

20%. - Results are based on percentage of weight loss so that it is fair for all!

- There will be a weigh-in every 3 weeks to keep everyone motivated.

- Workout on your own or coordinate with a group.

You MUST register the first week of June to participate in the challenge.

National Women’s Health Week is an observance led by the U.S. Department of Health

and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. The goal is to empower women to make

their health a priority. The week also serves as a time to help women understand what

steps they can take to improve their health. The 16th annual National Women’s Health

Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 10, and is celebrated until May 16, 2015.

To improve your physical and mental health, you can: Visit a doctor or nurse to receive

regular checkups and preventive screenings.

Get active.

Eat healthy.

Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.

Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, texting while driving, and not wearing a

seatbelt or bicycle helmet.
