Well Done to our Amazing Footballers!
Our boys’ football team were really
pleased when we won our group in the
Croydon boys’ football league.
Not only did they do this, but they went
through to the quarter, semi, and then to
the actual final. They are now the runners
-up in the boys’ Croydon league.
They have played brilliantly all through
the season. They won the semi-finals on
Tuesday of this week and then had to play
the finals the very next day!
Exhausted, and with no time to prepare
mentally, or for the school community to
rally and be there to support them, they
went out to win. The score was 2 all at full time, and then the opponents, Wolsey Juniors,
scored another goal in extra time; the boys were devastated.

Roman Day
Venimus et nos vidi-mus victis
These Romans did come, see and con-quer this week with lots and lots of Rom-anesque fun this week. We had visitors in school, courtesy of PTFA funding, who used role play and great artefacts to take year 4 back in time. Arayah and Summer have written the Cy-press News on this for me; please read their lovely articles. Watch the showcase on the website for updates from classes.
We can all understand
their disappointment,
but we had a big talk
about celebrating what
they had achieved and
how well they had
developed as team. I
made sure that they all
knew how proud the
Cypress Community is of
our boys’ football team.
They were applauded in
assembly today too.
Ms Belle is going to get
the shield updated with
our school name over
the Easter holidays and
then we will display it
proudly on our trophy
shelf.
Important Notice: Monday, 3rd April 2017
Workmen will be cutting back trees on the
pavement side of infant site.
Should your child be attending Easter Club
please take extra care when walking along
Auckland Road on entry to Cypress Road.
Thank you.
Gold Certificates for Reading
Well done to Eve, Bintou, Layla, Mohamed, Michella, Latifah, Nylah, Shaney, Ewelina, Edward, Lexie, and Chadane.

Goodbye and Good Luck
We say goodbye to Ms Henry-Ledgister
today. We wish her well.
Ms Ebrahim will start her maternity leave
today too and we wish her well and look
forward to seeing her new baby later in the
summer term.
Welcome
We welcome Mrs Dutton to Cypress, who will
be the teacher in Yellow class whilst Ms
Ebrahim is on maternity leave.
We also welcome back to Cypress Ms Tamby,
who left us in 2015. Ms Tamby will teach Oak
Class.
Easter and Spring Performances
and Celebrations
Well done and thank you to all the staff and
children of Little Cypress, reception, year 1
and year 3, who have shared really lovely
spring and Easter performances.
Mr Swaby is busy preparing DVDs of the re-
ception, year 1 and year 3 performances. We
will send out a text to let you know when
these are ready.
PTFA
Thank you to our lovely PTFA for providing refreshments at our performances, organising
and running the discos and for an amazing spring fair.

Head lice
We have had quite a few cases of head lice
infestations, especially in year 1 and 3. The
best way to avoid infestation is to condition
your child’s hair, and, when it is wet, with the
conditioner on it, comb it with a small-
toothed comb. If you treat your child’s hair
with oil, this also helps. Please check your
children’s hair regularly.
Prevention from catching
infections.
For general good health please keep your
children’s nails short, long hair tied back,
and ensure that thorough hand washing
procedures are firmly understood and
practised. These simple practices are the
best way to reduce head lice, ring worm
and thread worm infections and also to re-
duce the transfer of other common infec-
tions, viral and bacterial. Remedial Tree Works During the Easter break, some tree-felling will
take place for the safety of the community, as
they are all overhanging the public highway
and are dangerous. None of the trees has a
Tree Protection Order.
Voice in a million (VIAM)
Our VIAM children shared some of the songs
they had performed at Wembley Arena with us
in both junior and infant assemblies this
morning
Thank you all our lovely staff for all their
hard work and commitment, our children
for their hard studying and effort, our
parents and carers for all of their great
support and a general thanks to all of our
lovely community for being lovely.
Father John closed our year 3 assembly
with lovely words; he said that the Easter
story is a story that helps us to remember
love and forgiveness.
We join together at Cypress, as always, as
a bonded community with people of differ-
ent faiths and some of no designated faith.
We all have a shared vision of peace and
harmony. Cypress leads the way in
community cohesion and we will lead the
way in love and forgiveness at Easter time
and always.
Have a lovely break from school and we
will see you after the holidays (except for
year 2 and 6 children who are attending
booster classes next week!)
Thank you
Ms Godetz

Children earn points at KS2. They earn points
each day individually when they get their
stamp and, in addition to this, points are
earned as a class. Points are awarded to the
class when all the class have their PE kits,
arrive on time, are in school, have completed
their homework, have good behaviour at play-
time, have good behaviour at lunchtime and
behave appropriately in assembly. 3 points
are awarded each time this happens for each
aspect. Points can also be awarded by any
member of staff for good behaviour, effort or
achievement as a class too at anytime. All
points earned go onto a weekly class chart
and are totalled for that week. The winning
class in each year group is read out in Mon-
day’s assembly. This class earns 15 minutes
reward time. As a class, they can then decide
whether to add this to golden time or to play-
time.
In KS2, the classes who earned the most
points in each year group last week
were:
ELM CLASS 939
POPLAR CLASS 944
WILLOW CLASS 1074
LARCH CLASS 798
Which classes earned extra rewards for
great behaviour last week?
KS1
Every day the children in each class have to act to-
gether as a team as well as get their stamp individu-
ally for good Cypress behaviour. When the class
behave well as a group, they earn a daily tick. Ticks
are awarded each day for assembly, play time and
lunch time.
If a class gets all 5 days for good assembly behav-
iour they earn 5 minutes reward time, the same for
playtime and again for lunch time. If they get all 5
ticks for all 3 aspects of school behaviour, that’s 15
minutes, they get a bonus 5! This is called a Full
House. Then then get 20 minutes earned reward
time. As a class, they can decide whether to add this
to golden time on a Friday afternoon or to a playtime.
In KS1, the classes who earned Full
Houses last week were:

A considerate group of children and Dads met last
Sunday giving the Mums a lie-in for Mother's day
(and the chance to re out the li7le people so the
a.ernoon could be enjoyed at a leisurely pace).
It turned out to be something of a park crawl with
a circular route which took in South Norwood
Lake and Grounds, South Norwood Country
Park, Maberley Road Playing Fields, Churchfields
Recreaon Ground, Cator Park, Riverpool Walkway Open Space, Bellingham Play Park, Mayow Park and
Crystal Palace Park....
All in all the circular ride was 15 km (9 miles in old money) in length and took about 2 1/2 hours. More
than most adults could do I'm sure, which
makes the achievement of the Recepon
boy (Ralph) and Year 1 girl (Tallula) all the
more remarkable. Well done to Ernesto
from Year 2 and Joe and Rupert in Year 3
who also completed this fun ride. None of
the children (or adults) complained of being
red as there were various treats in the
shape if Haribos and pizza along the way.
There were plenty of pit stops to play on
the parks' swings and climbing frames too.
There was some discussion around increas-
ing the frequency of CCC meets to two per
month with one ride for beginners
which will stay in and around S
Norwood Lake, the other ride for
further afield (Shirley Windmill,
Wandle River...?). The next ride
will be on April 23rd, so get your
tyres pumped up ready for then!
See you soon,
Cypress Cycling Club.
