Welcome ~ We’re glad you’re here
The Transfiguration of the Lord
August 6, 2017

A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW
Dear Parish Family:
I hope you are enjoying your summer. Things are pretty quiet around the parish, now that the
festival is over. Here at the parish offices the staff continues to work preparing for September
when members begin to return from vacation. Thanks so much to all who are helping with the
clean up of the property after the festival. As we ease into the month of August remember that
on Tuesday August 15th is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary’s love for Jesus was surpassed by
none other. She had a special love for her Son, who is God, that made a claim on her entire being, body and soul. It is no
wonder then, that upon her death Mary was taken body and soul into heaven so that she in her totality could dwell forever
with her Son. Our celebration gives us the opportunity to ponder what heaven may be like and help us to long, even more
fervently, for the fulfillment and joy that only God can eternally provide. This feast is a special time of prayer for us as we
honor Mary the mother of Jesus. Please see the bulletin for the mass schedule.
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” Oh, to be on
that mountain! What a priceless experience for Peter, James, and John. If they
had ever doubted, if they wondered whether Jesus was really who he said he
was, their confidence surely got a boost on the day of the Transfiguration. Be-
fore their very eyes, Jesus’ divine beauty radiated gloriously while the two an-
cient prophets also appeared in miraculous manner. And to top it off, the voice
of God the Father spoke from the heavens and confirmed that it was all true: Jesus really is the Son of God! Why did Jesus
reveal himself in such a remarkable way to these men? Perhaps we have an answer in today’s epistle. Peter writes, “We our-
selves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.” Peter mentions this fact in order to confirm
his credibility as a preacher as he goes on to say, “We possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be
attentive to it.” Because of the mission that Peter had to help shape and nurture the Church in its earliest days, his position as
an “eyewitness” to the Transfiguration helped to gain the attention, and the faith, of his hearers. So although we were not there
during this holy apparition, we have the benefit of it. We, and the faithful through the ages, have heard the testimony that
Jesus is truly our God from those who saw in person that it was for real. In this way, the Transfiguration is able to bolster the
faith of many, not just the three men who were there that day. May we have the grace to allow the feast we celebrate today to
truly deepen our faith.
Have a wonderful week! See you on the weekend.
Fr. Andrew

August 6, 2017 ~ The Transfiguration of the Lord
“And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as
light.” - MATTHEW 17:2
Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, we should reflect Christ’s light to the
world. When we receive the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus, we are called to be
supernatural to reflect His love, mercy and forgiveness to others. When we are grateful
for all that God has given us, generosity flows through us because we are made in God’s
image.

P INE B ARRENS FESTIVAL A WARD
Each year at the Pine Barrens festival a community member is chosen for the Pine Barrens
Festival Award for their outstanding contribution to the Culture, History, and Ecology of
the Pine Barrens. This year, our parishioner Janet Boris was chosen.
Janet Boris has made her contribution through her work with environmental education for both
children and adults. Janet has been active with the Tabernacle Boy Scouts camping program for
many years - first as a program director running several weeks of day camp at the Pine Tree
Education and Environmental Center and then as camp director for the last four years. Janet has also served on the council
training staff, conducting training courses for adult leaders.
Janet's latest endeavor has been to extend the scouting program into the city of Camden. As a result, she has been able to
have these city boys attend day camp at Pine Tree right here in Tabernacle. And their response is ...."We Love It!"
We know Janet as an outstanding minister in our parish. Janet heads the Interfaith Hospitality program, serves as a Eucha-
ristic minister, minister of the altar, and ACTS ministry member. Congratulations Janet – and thank you for your service to
our community and our parish.
Welcome to Church of the Holy Eucharist. May you encounter Jesus Christ in His church and in His
sacraments through your participation in our Parish community. Visit our Welcome Center before or after
our weekend masses for any information on our parish, it’s ministries and it’s community.
We sincerely welcome you!
