Reading SchemesWe use several different reading schemes to support the children’s reading. Each book has been banded according to level so that we can ensure reading progression throughout the year.
Comprehension Skills• Through weekly guided reading sessions
the children will have the opportunity to develop their comprehension skills.
• Different types and levels of questioningliteral (what is actually there) deductive (looking for clues) inferential (reading between the lines)
Project XThese books cover a range of genres and relate to topics covered in school.
The inside cover tells you the tricky words that will be covered in the text .
The back of the book suggests questions you could ask your child to check they have understood the text rather than just reading it!!
Project XThese books will further encourage the love of reading for your
children and expand their interest in different topics.
Tree Tops and All Stars
These books are chapter books and again will encourage the children to love and enjoy reading!
Reading Homework• Reading homework will be set twice a
week on Tuesday and Friday.• All children will be heard read at least
once a week, please ensure their books are in school each day to facilitate this.
• Some children may be heard read more often if this is deemed appropriate.
Working Together
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s reading.

TBA Children should be heard read by an adult each night for approximately 10 minutes – this will either be set by the class teacher from the school reading scheme or your child should read to you from a book at home. Please sign each piece of your child’s homework so that their teacher knows that you have seen it before it is handed in.
