WILLOW POND

The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum

and Ducks Unlimited began Willow Pond

restoration work in 1993 to enhance the

freshwater ecosystem to support wildlife

viewing opportunities.

Sometimes you have to believe ...

Community volunteers, scouts and

school groups have helped clear and

maintain dirt trails around the 3.5 acre

pond area for more than 15 years ....

Waiting for the Pond to be restored!

The Willow Pond Natural Area now

serves as an important educational

experience to encourage the preservation

and stewardship of the freshwater

ecosystem of the Atlantic Flyway that

defines the lands and water of Eastern

North Carolina.

kindergarten class of Harkers Island

Elementary School in December 2007.
