We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving His life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating His sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE and THE LORD’S PRAYER

SCRIPTURE Colossians 1:11-20 Jim Horton

ANTHEM Sing to the Lord of Harvest Healey Willan

Sing to the Lord of harvest, sing songs of love and praise; with joyful hearts and voices your alleluias raise! By God the rolling seasons in fruitful order move; sing to the Lord of harvest a song of happy love.

By God the clouds drop fatness, the deserts bloom and spring, the hills leap up in gladness, the valleys laugh and sing. He filleth with His fullness all things with large increase; He crowns the year with goodness, with plenty, and with peace.

Heap on His sacred altar the gifts His goodness gave, the golden sheaves of harvest, the souls Christ died to save. Your hearts lay down before Him when at His feet you fall, and with your lives adore Him who gave His life for all. -John S.B. Monsell

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Ridgewood’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held at Old Paramus Reformed Church (660 E. Glen Ave., Ridgewood) on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30 pm. Come hear six unique expressions of Thanksgiving from local houses of worship. We’ll sing and pray together and

enjoy food and fellowship following the service.

Toy Drive for the Children of Oasis In addition to raising $25,000 for Oasis: A Haven for Women and Children this Advent/Christmas season, we’re collecting toys and gift cards for the children of Oasis. New unwrapped toys (for boys and girls up to age 12) and gift cards ($10 to $20 for Modell’s, Marshalls, Amazon, Dunkin’ Donuts and/or Burger King) may be dropped off in the Narthex by December 15. Every year, about 800 women in Paterson are able to give their children Christmas gifts thanks to the generosity of many, many Little Christs.

Hanging of the Greens Want to help decorate the Sanctuary for Christmas? We’re meeting in the Sanctuary on November 30 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm to set up trees and wreaths. It’s a fun “job” and a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. Join us for this annual tradition!

Stewardship Update To date, we have received 189 pledges totaling $885,408 for 2020, including 14 new pledges and 83 pledge increases over 2019. We are about $332,000 behind last year’s pledge level and goal for the coming year, so if you haven’t yet made a commitment to West Side’s ministry and mission, please prayerfully consider doing so. Pledge cards can be found in the Narthex, or you can pledge online at westside.org/giving. Thank you so much for your support of West Side! —Larry Steenvoorden, Co-Chair of Stewardship

Service of Remembrance The focus of December’s Healing and Wholeness Service will be “remembrance.” We invite you to join us during the season of Advent as we remember and reconnect with our loved ones, our community, our country, our world and, ultimately, our savior, Jesus Christ, the light of the world. We’ll meet in the Pulsifer Chapel on December 4 at 7:30 pm.

First Friday Christmas Party Ladies, you’re invited to a Christmas party at Mollie Ledwith’s home in Ridgewood on December 6 at 7:00 pm. Please bring an appetizer, dessert or wine to share...and let Pastor Liz ([email protected]) know that you’re coming by December 2.

Christmas Concert Bring your family and friends to kick off the season at our Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 pm. A holiday experience for all ages, it will feature some of your favorite carols, the wonderful sounds of an intergenerational choir, bell ringers and wind instruments and, of course, opportunities to sing along. You won’t want to miss this festive, family-friendly concert, which will be followed by light refreshments in the Narthex.

Christmas in Hackensack We’re celebrating Christmas at the Drug Rehabilitation Center at the Bergen County Jail on Saturday, December 14, carpooling from West Side at 4:30 pm. If you feel called to this ministry, please reach out to Genevieve Lowry ([email protected]). All you need to do is bring a two-liter bottle of soda, a dessert, and an open mind and heart.

We’re also providing Christmas gifts for children whose mothers or fathers are in the rehab center. If you’d like to purchase a present—or make a monetary donation to help cover ship-ping costs—please contact Terry Erzmoneit ([email protected]). Simply wrap and drop off the gift at the church...Terry will take care of the rest. All gifts are needed by December 10 so they will arrive on time for Christmas. Thank you!
