【What is the Univ. Coop?】

-The Univ. Coop was founded by a group of students, and is based on the values of self-help,

self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. That is to say, the COOP is operated by

its members.

The Univ. COOP provides many services to its members and distributes store-earned profits to

them.

Becoming a member enables you to enjoy Coop benefits. To join, you must provide a ¥25,000

investment (short period international student: ¥5,000), which will be fully refunded upon

graduation or withdrawal from Tohoku university.

【What is the HagiCo Card?】

-Coop members can get a prepaid Coop membership card, called a “HagiCo Card”. When you use

your HagiCo card for purchases, you will get 1 point for every ¥100 you spend! When you earn

100 points, ¥100 will be added to your card automatically. Purchasing with the HagiCo card is

faster and more convenient. No more fumbling with cash!

(*Members are not allowed in any way to transfer their privileges or to make purchases on

their HagiCo card on behalf of others. The misuse of the Coop number and card will result in

the cancellation of their membership.)

【How do I add funds?】

-Visit our shop and talk to a cashier.

-Use the deposit machine (called a “Kakin-ki” in Japanese).

【What forms of payment can I use for purchases?】

-You may pay with cash, HagiCo Card or a TUO Card (VISA).

【What is a TUO Card?】

This is a kind of credit card (VISA). It is issued by Sumitomo Mitsui Card Co.Ltd. VISA. TUO

cards are the only credit cards accepted by the Coop. (Only members can apply for a Tuo card.)

You can use this card not only in Coop shops, but also for everyday purchases.

Furthermore, as with other credit cards, you can use it all over the world.

Caution: students enrolled for less than half a year can NOT apply for this card.

We are pleased to announce that a special booth for applying for the above mentioned

credit cards is opening as described below. Please take this opportunity to get one.

Overview

■Tuo VISA card

The Tuo VISA card is a credit card for students. It is issued by Sumitomo Mitsui Card

Co., Ltd and their business partner, University CO-OP.

Shopping and cashing services are available at CO-OP shops or shops outside of the

campus.

Monthly credit card expenses will be withdrawn from the cardholder's Japanese bank

account (if the card is used overseas, expenses will be charged after being converted

into Japanese yen with a rate of 1.63% added to the Visa International exchange rate.)

・Annual Fee: Free for the first year. For following years, the annual fee will be free if

the Tuo VISA card is used more than once in the previous year. 1250 yen + tax will be

charged if the card is not used.

・Credit limit: 50 thousand yen, 100 thousand yen, or 300 thousand yen.

・Upon graduation: How to switch to a general card will be explained upon graduation.

■Sumitomo Mitsui Unionpay card (recommended for Chinese students)

Sumitomo Mitsui Unionpay card is a widely accepted card in China, in both big cities

and regional areas, and has a network of 12 million shops. It is very useful for Chinese

students, especially upon returning home to China. Card expenses will be withdrawn

from the cardholder's Japanese bank account (a 2.5% processing fee is required for

overseas card expenses).

・Issuing fee: Generally 2000 yen + Tax ⇒ Free (only during campaign)

※Upon renewal of card (5 year basis): 1000 yen + Tax

・Credit limit: 100 thousand yen to 800 thousand yen

※No cashing service is available.
