Julie Bassett trumpet and euphonium No Picture Provided Julie, daughter of Bill and Donna Bassett, will attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth/Dallas where she will major in music education and pursue her dream of becoming a high school band director. Julie was a Symphonic and Marching Band member at Enterprise HS in Alabama before coming to WSHS, where she played trumpet and euphonium for two years in the Symphonic Band. Julie is also a two-year veteran of the Mighty Vikings, playing trumpet and serving as baritone Section Leader. She accumulated All-County and All-District honors both in Woodbridge and in Alabama, and made Alabama All-State Band on trumpet in 10th grade. Among Julie’s favorite band memories are times spent with Eric and Camille making cupcakes and brownies and giving out stickers and stamps.

Brylee Baugh flute and piccolo Brylee, daughter of Melinda and Duncan Baugh, will attend Virginia Tech and “plans on marching” for the Hokies. She has not settled on a major yet. Brylee played flute in Concert I and in Symphonic. She was a piccolo player for two years in Marching Band and also performed in Indoor Percussion Ensemble for two years. Brylee’s favorite recollection of band will be “hanging out in the hotel room with all my friends on trips.”

Jerry Bortner tuba Jerry is the son of Tom and Gloria Bortner. He will attend James Madison University and hopes to commit to a four-year Army ROTC scholarship. Jerry plans to double major in religion and in a practical major, and aims to participate in as many college activities for which he has time. After his studies, he intends to complete his Army obligation and either stay in the military or become a youth minister or missionary. Jerry played tuba in Concert Band and spent two years in Marching Band on baritone and tuba. He fondly recalls “climbing the coconut trees in Miami.”

Laura Coy flute and piccolo Laura, daughter of Tim Coy, has played piccolo for four years in Marching Band and during her senior year served as Section Leader. She also played flute in Concert Band and for three years as a member of the Symphonic Band. In addition, Laura performed in Indoor Percussion Ensemble her senior year. She was in 9th grade Honors Band. Laura’s favorite recollection is the Gator Bowl trip during her freshman year, especially when the WSHS Mighty Vikings were joined by drum majors from Virginia Tech in dancing to the Woodbridge cadence. She says “it was great to catch so many people’s attention and to have so much fun!” Laura will attend James Madison University.

Heather Jo Devault alto saxophone Heather is the daughter of Jim and Sue Devault. She will attend West Virginia University where she hopes to pursue a major in either biology or forensic science. Heather played alto sax in the Varsity Band her freshman year and in the Concert I and II bands through her senior year. She marched with the Mighty Vikings marching band for three years. Her favorite band memories: "Spending time with my friends in the band and causing trouble." Lisa Marlene Diamond oboe No Picture Provided Lisa looks forward to attending Brigham Young University in Utah this fall and sharing an apartment close to campus with her sister. The daughter of Chuck and Linda Diamond, Lisa was a four-year member of the Symphonic Band and enjoyed the “good conductors and challenging music” she encountered playing oboe in All-County. Her favorite memories of band extend to middle school, when she and Larissa fell into the habit of practicing their scales in the bathroom because playing music in the halls wasn’t permitted. Lisa says “we loved hearing such full sounds and vibrato ringing off the bathroom walls.” Another memory Lisa takes away from band is the “chorus of arghs and ahoy maties” from the trumpet guys behind her during Pirates of the Caribbean.

Matthew Brian Dickerson clarinet The son of Donna and Brian Dickerson, Matthew heads for West Virginia University with an AFROTC scholarship. After college he plans to join the Air Force to fly F-22 Raptors. Playing both E-flat contra-alto clarinet and B-flat clarinet, Matthew has devoted four years to Symphonic Band, three years to Marching Band, and one year to Jazz Band.

Kelly Gaberlavag French horn and mellophone Kelly is the daughter of Kathleen and George Gaberlavage. She started her high school music career playing French horn in Concert I and II, and moved on to Symphonic in her junior and senior years. Kelly was also in All-County Band in her freshman and junior years. She played mellophone for the Mighty Vikings from 9th to 11th grade. In fall, Kelly leaves to attend the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, and hopes to have a career in politics or museum work. She has fond memories of seeking refuge from the hectic school days of her freshman year in Mr. Zolman’s class.

Patrick Hickey trumpet Patrick is the son of Tracy and Dan Hickey. He played trumpet in the Symphonic and Marching Bands for four years. From his sophomore to senior years he served as trumpet Section Leader. His skills on trumpet earned him All-County and All-District honors every year since 9th grade. Patrick is also a three-year veteran of the Jazz Band. In fall, Patrick heads to Virginia Tech as a bio-chemistry major and plans to play for the Marching Virginians. As for his favorite band memory, Patrick sums it up in one word: “everything.”

Katherine Kerr French horn and clarinet Katherine, daughter of Ralph and Mary Kerr, is headed for James Madison University as a political science major. She also plans to work toward her interpreter’s certificate in American sign language. Her motto: “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each person everywhere.” Katherine was a member of the Concert I, Symphonic, and marching bands both at WSHS and in high school in Georgia. She will always remember Saturday morning competitions, bus rides, friends, cheering at games, band camp, getting superiors at festival, and much else.

Jenny Lambert clarinet Jenny, daughter of Dave and Kathy Lambert, will attend James Madison University and plans to be in the marching band. She played clarinet in Concert I, followed by three years in Symphonic. Jenny is also a four-year veteran of the Marching Band and served as clarinet Section Leader during her senior year. In addition, Jenny was in Jazz Band her junior year and enjoyed playing in pit orchestra for Music Man. She made Honors Band in 9th grade, All-County in 11th grade, and All-County and All-District in 12th grade. Her favorite band memory is from the Gator Bowl during her freshman year, when members of the Clemson University and Virginia Tech marching bands joined the WSHS kids in playing “The Horse” and dancing around during warm-ups for the parade. Says Jenny: “That just shows how much more fun our band has than everyone else.”

Shay Lindberg French horn Shay, daughter of Toni Tucker, plans to attend Northern Virginia Community College before settling on a career path. She is considering a major in music and psychology. Shay played horn for two years in Concert and two years in Symphonic, and put four years into the Mighty Vikings Marching Band. Her favorite memories are of fooling around and laughing with friends.

Camille Luther flute, piccolo, baritone and euphonium Camille’s musical career includes one year in Varsity and three years in Concert I. The daughter of John and Carmen Luther, Camille will attend Wingate University. Her favorite band memory is the Orange Bowl trip.

Larissa Mihalisko oboe and alto saxophone The daughter of Misha and Kathy Mihalisko, Larissa starts Virginia Tech in the fall with a major in international studies. She intends to join the Marching Virginians, play intramural softball, and join the kayak club. Her musical experience includes one year in Concert I and three years in Symphonic. She played alto saxophone in Marching Band for two years before becoming Drum Major during her junior and senior years. She has been first or second chair oboe in All-County and All-District Bands every year since 9th grade, and in 2004 was second chair oboe in All-State Symphonic. Larissa plans to enjoy the years ahead by traveling and residing on a beach One of the things she will miss most is playing oboe with Lisa for the past six years. Great memories were also made at the Gator Bowl, playing sax with Christine, and “tanning in Miami.”

Mandie Neal flute and trombone Mandie is headed for West Virginia University and hopes to become a member of the school’s Athletic Training program. Mandie played flute and trombone in Concert I and flute for three years in Symphonic Band. In Marching Band she played pit during her first year, piccolo the second, and trombone for the past two years. As a senior, Mandie served as trombone Section Leader. Mandie was a member of the Indoor Percussion Ensemble in 11th and 12th grades. Mandie will pursue a career in physical therapy or athletic training. Favorite band memory: “The amazing friends that I’ve made in band. The trips were always fun, but its all of the people that made them that way.”

Ryan Patterson percussion and drumline Ryan, son of Janice Patterson and Christopher Rich, has been in Marching Band for each of his four years at WSHS and served as drumline Section Leader in his junior and senior years. He was also in the Varsity and Concert Bands before spending two years in Symphonic. Ryan recalls that before the Orange Bowl performance, as the drumlines were grouped for staging: “The Woodbridge drumline performed ALL of our cadences, while the other drumlines surrounded us and were awestruck at our playing. It was so memorable because we were center stage and the other drummers finally saw with their own eyes how amazing we really were!” Ryan will attend Virginia Tech to pursue his degree in architecture and plans to be in the drumline of the Marching Virginians.

Karen Potter bassoon and percussion Karen, daughter of George and Kathy Potter, played bassoon for two years and percussion for one year in the Symphonic Band. She was also in pit for two years in the Mighty Vikings Marching Band. Karen is headed for Mary Baldwin College where she will play field hockey and softball as well as VWIL. She will major in business administration and then go to culinary school. Her favorite band moments revolve around Karen, Sharon, and Erin all together.

Anthony Ricciardi percussion and drumline Anthony is the son of Mary and Richard Ricciardi. He will attend Virginia Tech and plans to join the Marching Virginians and perhaps an ensemble. He is considering a career in engineering. Anthony was a percussionist in Concert for one year, in Symphonic Band for three years, and in Indoor Drumline for two years. In Marching Band he played cymbals and snare and served one year as drumline Section Leader. Anthony’s skills received recognition at the levels of All-District (three years), All-County (three years), All-Region (one year) and Virginia All-State (one year). He sums up his favorite band memory in one word: “Miami.”

Jason Rodriguez percussion and drumline No Picture Provided Jason, son of Anna Homan and Rudy Rodriguez, is a four-year veteran of both the Symphonic and Marching Bands. He played snare during his freshman year and quads from his sophomore to senior years. Jason was also a member of Indoor Drumline in his junior year as well as Jazz Band. He achieved All-District honors twice during his high school career. He recalls with pride how, in Miami, the Woodbridge drumline really “showed up” and silenced the other bands with its great rendition of “Street Beat.” Jason says his future is “wide open for anything” and he will most likely attend community college before transferring to a university. Right now he is most focused on playing the drums.

Edgar Santiago baritone saxophone Edgar is the son of Edgar A. and Paulette Santiago. He will attend Potomac State College with plans to transfer to James Madison University. Edgar hopes to major in criminal justice so he can go to work for the FBI or CIA. Edgar's most memorable band moments came at the Orange Bowl: "Dancing with random girls and watching Jerry after he ate a peanut butter cookie.

Carrie Scronce flute The daughter of Ralph and Patti Scronce, Carrie is headed to Virginia Tech where she may pursue a degree in psychology. A flutist in the Varsity, Concert, and Symphonic Bands, Carrie was also a member of the Mighty Vikings Marching Band for three years. Her favorite band memory is the New Year’s Eve dance at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville during her freshman year.

Andrea Sherrill flute and piccolo Andrea, daughter of Ronald and Jo Ann Sherrill, leaves to pursue her degree in elementary education at James Madison University. Her career goal is to teach young children. Andrea played flute and piccolo for four years in Symphonic Band and wore many hats in Marching Band, including “Woodwind Captain, Band Captain, personnel manager, office manager, and senior rookie.” Her fondest memory is of winning the USSBA Mid-Atlantic Championship.

Lauren Smith flute and percussion No Picture Provided Lauren will attend James Madison University with a major in international relations and a minor in either French or economics. The daughter of David and Donna Smith, Lauren transferred to Woodbridge and played in Symphonic Band for two and a half years. She also devoted two years to the Mighty Vikings in pit and an equal number of years in Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Lauren achieved All-County and All-District honors during her junior year. She will not soon forget the Atlanta trip, the New Year’s party in Miami, and “mostly the cool kids I’ve met.”

Ben Thurber Percussion Ben is the son of Paul and Elizabeth Thurber. This summer, he will attend WyoTech where he will train as an automotive technician. Ben plans to apply to BMW's STEP program where he hopes to earn the title of Master Mechanic. He also hopes to train as a Porsche technician and eventually own his own hot rod shop or racing team. Ben played percussion for three years in the Concert I and II bands. He marched with the Mighty Viking Marching Band for three years and played in the pit his senior year. Ben's favorite band memories were from his senior year, especially the drumline's dominating season.

Amy Traylor flute and piccolo The daughter of Leigh and Mark Traylor, Amy is a four-year veteran of the Marching Band and was Section Leader during her senior year. She played flute and oboe in Varsity and Concert bands prior to becoming a flutist and piccolo player for two years in Symphonic Band. Amy also played snare and mallets during her two years in Indoor Percussion Ensemble. In fall, she heads for Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in international studies with a possible minor in a foreign language. She plans to join the Corps of Cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band while there. Her future plans may include training as a chef and opening her own restaurant or becoming a foreign service officer. Her favorite band memories? Meeting all of her friends and going to the Gator and Orange Bowls. She leaves Woodbridge with the thought: “Gig’em Aggies!”

Charles Tyler clarinet Charles, son of Benjamin and Constance Tyler, will attend Christopher Newport University. Although he has yet to declare a major, Charles may pursue psychology or chemistry. Charles played clarinet in the Varsity Band (freshman), Concert 1 and 2 Bands (sophomore/junior), and Symphonic Band (senior). Charles was a member of the Mighty Vikings Marching Band his junior and senior years. His favorite band moments came during the Orange Bowl trip: "The whole experience on our recent trip to Miami because of the beautiful hotel, the fun in our rooms, and the funny moments at the mall and on the dance floor."

Brandon Weiss trumpet Brandon’s career in music at WSHS includes one year in Varsity Band, one year in Concert I, two years in Symphonic, three years in Jazz Band, and four years as a member of the Mighty Vikings Marching Band, serving as Band Captain during his senior year. The son of Gordon and Mary Weiss, Brandon will attend Old Dominion University in Norfolk with a major in computer engineering and a minor in computer science. He recalls the nice warm weather in Miami for the 2003/2004 trip and watching Jerry’s reaction after swallowing a peanut butter cookie.

Christine White alto saxophone Christine is the daughter of Wayne and Cynthia White. She dedicated one year to Concert Band, three years to Symphonic, and four years to the Mighty Vikings Marching Band, serving as Drum Major during her senior year. Christine also played in the Jazz Band and Indoor Percussion Ensemble. She achieved All-County and All-District honors which she described as “wonderful experiences . . . it was great playing with people who really cared.” The Gator Bowl is her favorite band memory because “even though it was freezing, it was uber fun playing with the mass band and meeting all the crazy people with us. I’m never going to forget it.” Christine, who plans to become a veterinarian, leaves for Virginia Tech to pursue a degree in animal sciences. She intends to participate in intramural softball and swimming, and to perform with the Marching Virginians.
