Major European investment in geospatial data
• Copernicus programme (2014-2020)
• The Galileo programme (2011-2020)
• FP7 (2007-2013) and Horizon2020 (2014-2020)
The Digital Single Market
• ”The global economy is rapidly becoming digital. ICT is no longer a specific sector but the foundation of all modern innovative economic systems”.
• The DSM is a major opportunity for industry
• We need to remove the legal and interoperability barriers between organisations, systems and data which are still fragmenting the market.

managementmanagement
• New technologies and social media
provide major opportunities for more
participative forms of policy making,
• New source of scientific evidence and
engaging the different stakeholders in
the production of science.
Example of citizen science: MYGEOSS
• Two-year project (2015-16) by the European Commission to develop GEOSS-based smart Internet applications informing European citizens on local environment.
• Three open calls for innovative ideas: March and November 2015, and March 2016.November 2015, and March 2016.
• First call resulted in 58 applications
• 10 winning apps address air and water quality, urban indicators, invasive species, hazard and allergens alerts, scuba-divers information, light pollution, and dust storms early warning.
• We announce the results at: http://digitalearthlab.jrc.ec.europa.eu/mygeoss/call.cfm
Public-Private Sector Convergence
