District 11, this is your 2 nd Vice-Chair Ariana Barajas from San Patricio County, and I am glad to be writing to you today. As we come into the month of October so much is on our mind, life is going on, and everybody is thinking of Friday night’s football game. As students today we are involved in so much from sports, to student council, and of course the wonderful Texas 4-H program; how- ever, lets try to slow down for this upcoming week in October. Between the 3 rd and 9 th we will be participating in NATIONAL 4-H WEEK 2010! Talk about a week that is dedicated to US!! An opportunity to spread the word of how great 4-H is and WHY others should join our family! To me, National 4-H Week is the voice of our organization. I see it as a week of doing everything we have ever dreamed of doing! I know that we all care deeply about the growth of 4-H; and why wouldn’t we? In my opinion, why would we not want to recruit new mem- bers to join 4-H and take part in all the awe- some activities that we take part in? 4-H is a lifestyle that no other organization can offer. 4- H is custom fit to our members. Literally. I have yet to find a person in my community who could not fit into one of the numerous 4-H pro- grams. In my club and my county I am organiz- ing not only outreach and recruitment but appre- ciation of our community as well. I see National 4-H Week as an opportu- nity WITHOUT LIMITATION, meaning that any- thing is possible during this week and it can get done with a little hard work and dedication. Not to mention that since this week is so early on in our 4-H year, WE as D-11 can motivate hundreds of 4-Hers to MAKE THE BEST BETTER and go out and make 4-H bigger and better. Now here’s the challenge that is posed to us as the best district in the beautiful state of Texas: HOW ARE WE GOING TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON OUR STATE AND OUR NATION? There are a ton of ways we can reach our com- munities and our students. Don’t be afraid to make suggestions and let your voice be heard because any suggestion is worth discussion. Set BIG goals and have BIG thoughts. Have fun with National 4-H Week and make your voice heard because even the smallest club can have a hu- mongous voice. Get outside, get involved, and get to HAVING FUN!!! I can’t wait to see all the creativity and activities that happen in District 11 during Na- tional 4-H Week. Make us proud D-11!!!

Parliamentary Procedure Tips

Hi guys! As your District 11

Parliamentarian I want to

remind you of a few terms

that will be helpful for you to

understand as your begin

meeting with your County 4-

H Council:

Amend: Inserting or striking out words or paragraphs, or substituting whole para-graphs or resolutions Main Motion: Brings new busi-ness (the next item on the agenda) before the assembly Lay on the Table: Temporar-ily suspends further considera-tion/action on pending ques-tion; may be made after mo-tion to close debate has car-ried or is pending Previous Question: Closes de-bate if successful - may be moved to "Close Debate" if preferred

Commit /Refer/Recommit to Committee: State the com-mittee to receive the question or resolution; if no committee exists include size of commit-tee desired and method of selecting the members (election or appointment).

Remember, proper parlia-

mentary procedure is the key

to running an effective 4-H

meeting!

Getting to know your D-11 Officers ...

What is your funniest 4-H memory?

If you could ask President Obama one question what would it be?

Who is your hero?

My heroes are the men and women that fight for our nation overseas. They inspire me to be more than myself, and to have a heart as brave, bold, and dedicated as theirs.

Hannah Speed

1st Vice Chairman

I would ask what his take is on the decreas-ing percentages of the arable land use for agriculture?

Ariana Barajas 2nd Vice Chairman

My funniest 4-H mem-ory would definitely have to be when I was about 8 years old. I was attempting to turn a pig around and it saw a gap between my legs and went for it. I ended up riding the pig back-wards all the way down the ally before finally falling off.

Chris Wood Public Relations

My hero is my mom be-cause she does the impossi-ble.

Mitchell Gates Parliamentarian

My hero is my dad. He has taught me so many life lessons and always wants the best for me. He has always told me to believe in myself and that I can accomplish any goal that I set for myself, big or small.

Colleen Krenek Secretary

As a Texas hunter, I would ask Barack Obama if he believes the Second Amendment cre-ates an individual right, and if he respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms.

Dillon Bramble 3rd Vice Chairman

My funniest 4-H mem-ory is the time our Wild-life Judging Team went to a state contest far from our hometown and we got lost. To make matters worse, our county agent got the county van stuck in mud and we all had to help push it out!

Kelley Ullrich Chairman

My hero is my G r a n d p a . H e taught me every-thing I know about horses, sportsman-ship, and how to live and love in life.
