All are invited to the annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Mass & Reception, Monday evening, Jan. 22, to observe the National Day of Penance and Prayer for Life. Catholics across the Archdiocese join in fellowship to pray in penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion and for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life, from conception to natural death. In conjunction with the event, the archdiocese is conducting a diaper drive to assist families raising newborns, infants, or toddlers. CHILI COOK OFF Feb. 3, 2018

The St.Francis de Sales Annual Chili Cook-off will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 in the Parish Activity Center starting at 6:30 p.m. If you have a special or secret chili recipe or just feel that your chili is the best, bring in a pot of your chili, along with a copy of the recipe and let’s have some fun while everyone gets to sample your chili and vote for their favorite in each category. There will be 5 categories of chili to enter: MEAT, VEGETARIAN, FIRE DEPARTMENT, SURPRISE INGREDIENT AND A SPECIAL KIDS under 17yrs old category. Each participant will supply a crock pot of their chili. Beans are allowed but no pasta. The participant also needs to be present to serve samples to the voters. After the voting period is over, everyone is invited to enjoy a delicious chili supper along with all the “fix’ns”. Soda, wine, beer and hot dogs will be available to purchase. Admission is free for chili makers. Non-participants are asked to donate $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and children over 12. Children under 12 are free. We are in need of chili makers and volunteers to help out at the event. A Chili Maker and Volunteer Sign-Up sheets will be posted in the Parish Center beginning the week end of Jan. 6 and 7. Remember that the judging is done by popular vote in each category, so encourage your family and friend to come to the Chili Cook Off for a night of fun, good food and to vote for you. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help at this event, please contact Ken Cramer at 262-327-4330 or [email protected].

LUCKY TICKET RAFFLE Are you wondering about our Lucky Ticket Raffle coming up on Jan. 24? Here are some common questions and answers: What is a reverse raffle anyway? A reverse raffle is a raffle, but backwards. Although we draw the winning tickets in the beginning, they aren't revealed until the ticket is actually in the countdown. The winners (and losers!) are announced backwards from 300th ticket to the first place prize. The suspense builds as people realize when they are still in the game. This all takes place during a pasta dinner at Celebration on Wells. It's a lot of fun! What are the prizes? The grand prize is $10,000 cash! Other prizes (which will be awarded every 25th draw) include a 49” Smart TV, a gift card donated by Next Door Pub, 4 Brewers Tickets and Parking Pass donated by SPX Flow, a Lake Geneva Charm donated by China West Jewelers, 4 Badger football tickets donated by Tom and Kathie Murray, a Lake Geneva Book Basket, an Apple Watch donated by Martha Cucco/@properties, a gift card to Fitzgerald's Fish Boil, an overnight stay donated by the Geneva Inn, Dog Bed and Treats donated by Paws for Treats, Wine Tasting for 10 donated by Studio Winery, and a motorcycle rental and basket donated by Harley Davidson. Your odds are pretty good to be a winner! What is the deal with dinner? Your ticket includes a delicious pasta dinner for 1-2 people at Celebration on Wells. There is a cash bar. Seating is limited so we can only offer dinner to raffle ticket holders. Why is it on January 24? January 24 is the Feast of St. Francis de Sales. This is the second year for this fun event and it seems fitting to once again celebrate our patron saint. Plus it’s freezing outside and this is fun thing to do! Do I need to be present to win? No! We’ll call you! Where do the proceeds go? Right back to our Parish Operating fund. The monies are used toward staff salaries, utilities, etc. We like this fundraiser because it doesn’t take a ton of volunteer power and our parishioners can relax and enjoy themselves. When we sell all 300 tickets, we will make over $15,000. How can I help? If you are able to sell a friend, co-worker, or relative a ticket, that would be great! People can pay by credit card, check, or cash. Tickets can be purchased on Sundays in the office or by calling/coming into the office during the week. Good luck to all!

GRATITUDE FROM HUMAN CONCERNS To the many of you have made sure that our various drives have been successful: thank you from the many who receive your donations of personal products (large designated basket in the Center). From those who were given coats, scarves, gloves and other warm winter outer clothing...from those who received the blankets...from all who have been given gas and food vouchers, a huge Thank YOU! From those who are given shelter at The Sprit of Hope men’s shelter of Walworth County, thank you for the groceries and meals provided. The Lake Geneva Food Pantry is very grateful for the wonderful supply of food and items you regularly donate in the baskets in the Center. JOURNALING WORKSHOP Saturday, Jan. 20, 9:00 a.m.-11:15. a.m.

St. Joseph Hall, 1501 S. Layton Blvd. (Greenfield Ave. at 27th St.), Milwaukee

Journaling is a helpful way to chronicle life events, and record observations and ideas. A journal is a trusted friend that repeatedly reinvites the author to reflect, express strong feelings, deliberate on life’s questions, and even sketch pictures. Explore this creative process for yourself on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., at a workshop sponsored by the School Sisters of St. Francis. “The New Year in Image and Journaling” will be offered on their south side Milwaukee campus, St. Joseph Center. The workshop will be led by Faye Schwelitz, PhD, PsyD, who holds certification in spiritual direction. The session will introduce the benefits of journaling to newcomers, and give experienced journalers a greater affinity for this healing and self-improving activity. Advance registration is required for this workshop. The fee is $15. Please write checks to: School Sisters of St. Francis Outreach Events; 1501 S. Layton Blvd., M i l w a u k e e , W I 5 3 2 1 5 . Contact: [email protected] or 414-385-5272. Ample free parking available at 29th St. and Orchard St. at the School Sisters’ lot.
