A Level ReformThe Government has commenced the reform of A Level

subjects which is being phased in over several years

• 2015-2016 is the first year of reformed syllabuses in some subjects.

• Since 2000, A Levels have been divided into two parts each containing two units:

• AS counted as 50% of the A2 / A Level and attracted 50% of UCAS points for university entry.

The future plan is for AS and A Levels to be ‘decoupled’.

A Level Reform• Students will still be able to study AS and A2 courses

but to qualify for an A2 students will need to take both parts of the course at the end of A2 in the Summer of Y13.

• The AS will become a standalone qualification: students can do an AS in Y12 but it will no longer count towards their A2 qualification

• The changes are being phased in gradually over the next three years.

Universities will not discriminate according to AS or no AS

TDMSTDMS has made the decision to enter students for all AS levels in

summer 2016 to counteract the problem of two systems working at once and to give students a creditable progress check.

• In the reformed subjects the AS marks will not count towards the final A Level but if the subject is not continued into Year 13 it will serve as a Stand Alone qualification

• A Stand Alone AS Level is worth 40% of the UCAS points of a full A Level

• Students in the Sixth Form study four AS subjects in Year 12, most students drop to three A2 subjects in Year 13
