2021 FLY-IN EVENTS

WELCOME TO THE CPA FLY-IN POST-COVID EDITION 2021!

This Colorado Pilots Association publication was introduced last year and was immediately impacted by the onslaught of COVID. It was not a good year for fly-ins. Our intent was to introduce more of the regional aviation community to our fly-in program. This program originated a number of years ago when a small group of CPA members met at a member’s home to discuss the idea of group-flying to interesting destinations in the western portion of the U.S. This meeting has grown to a much larger, (in a normal year), annual gathering that we now consider one of CPA’s premier mem-bership offerings, because our destinations vary so widely in geographic scope; they are so remarkably interesting and fun; and because the aura surrounding each event is almost magical, we have loads of fun!

Our adventures aren’t just about the shear joy of flying, but are also about the common bonds that we as aviators enjoy. We’re social creatures, and combining great times with friends, who have a common love of flying, is about as wonderful as this life can get. Why not take the time now, to explore the pages of this booklet and see for yourself the exciting times that are in store this year? Coming off the COVID headache, we have a minimal number of events, but they’re trips you don’t want to miss. In a normal flying season we’re used to as many as eight or ten destinations. Those good times will return.

We plan destinations both near and far to support those of all flying skills and with varying aircraft capabilities. If you’re new to flying, many of these flights are of a distance that should be comfort-able for you to start building that time and experience that we pilots all strive for. If you’ve been flying for awhile and are getting stale flying within 50 miles of your home base, use this program to expand your horizons and bring the joy of flying back into your life. Our members are engineers, doctors, land-scapers, computer scientists, auto mechanics, ATC controllers, lawyers, educators and more. You’ll make friends from all walks of life enjoying the common bond of aviation.

Enjoy this booklet outlining our unique events for this year. To register for a specific fly-in, visit the CPA website at www.coloradopilots.org. Announcements will be made under “Fly-in Events” and in the “Calendar” section; emails will go out to members; and an announcement will be posted in the monthly edition of our newsletter FLIGHT LINES. You may even find the information on our Facebook page. You’ll be hard pressed to miss these announcement flyers! They will offer the details that matter the most. . .times to arrive, FBO info, specific scheduling info for events, happy hour plans, hotel info, transportation info, and the cost for each fly-in. Generally speaking, the CPA charges to cover the costs involved and makes no money on the event.

Give us a try. You won’t be disappointed! This is one of the most cordial groups of people you’ll ever meet. We look forward to seeing you.

Note: If you’re a pilot from one of the surrounding states, we’d love to have you join us. Just register on the website as the rest of our members do. That’s all that’s required. Yes, you can save money by becoming a CPA member. Join now by visiting the following page of this booklet.

Happy flying!Bob Kinney, Chairman Fly-in Committee

TRINITY, NEW MEXICO

Location: Truth or Consequences, NMDate: October 1-3, 2021Host: Bill Marvel [email protected]

Join us the weekend of October 1-3, 2021 as we visit Richard Branson’s futuristic Spaceport America launch facility and also Trinity site, where the world’s fi rst atom bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945.

On arrival at Truth or Consequences airport (KTCS) October 1, you’ll receive “event unique” name badges and will be met by a private tour bus and driven to Spaceport America for a 4-hour tour. Cost is $60 per person. Time constraints require us to have lunch on the bus on the way to the Space-port. Buses hold 13 passengers, so the two available set the maximum number of attendees at 26. Buses will be dedicat-ed to CPA members only.

We will return to the airport for the 50-mile fl ight north to Socorro, NM (KONM) where city provided transportation will take us to the hotel and to and from Trinity Site the next day. Trinity Site is open only two days a year and is located in the White Sands Missile Range within both ground and air restrict-ed areas. We’ll actually stand on ground zero and see the many artifacts brought to the site for the event. We’ll also visit the Mc-

Donald house where the plutonium core was assembled and which contains rarely seen photos of that day. It is located several miles from the blast site. Docents are at both locations to answer all of our questions.

We’ll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express, close to local restaurants, and the CPA group room rate is $129 a night. We’ll have the ever-popular CPA Happy Hour events as well as a Saturday night group dinner at the Jackson Ranch Steak House.

Sunday morning, city transport will return us to the air-port for departure homeward. Don’t miss this rare oppor-tunity to fl y both backward in time and forward into the future!
