FROM THE PRIESTDon't we all love to receive gifts? Sometimes we love our gifts that we adore/use them all the time, but many other times, those gifts "lose their luster" and we put them to the side.Jesus's disciples received a gift after His death and Resurrection which is the Holy Spirit! Jesus knew that His disciples needed help to carry out their mission, so He sent the power of the Holy Spirit to assist them with their mission.Jesus was also filled with the Holy Spirit when He was baptized at the Jordan River (Mark 1:8) so He could start His ministry (He spent forty days in the wilderness, returned to Galilee (Luke 4:1).Like Jesus who was anointed with the Holy Spirit to start His ministry, the disciples needed the anointing of the Holy Spirit (at Pentecost) to start the mission given by Jesus and used this gift to begin a new way of life – a life of love, joy and peace!The disciples cherished this gift and allowed the Holy Spirit to fill their hearts with the love of God and gave them courage to be real disciples of Jesus Christ filled with faith!Like the disciples, we receive the same Holy Spirit and the Spirit fills our hearts and helps us in our weaknesses and helps us grow spiritually!Pentecost reminds us of that outpouring of the Holy Spirit and also reminds us of how much that gift costs – the gift was only given because of Jesus's suffering, death, Resurrection and Ascension!May we ask our Father to continue to fill us with the power of His Holy Spirit so we may live faith-filled lives as Jesus's disciples!• Pray for Pope Francis and those who lead the Church,
especially Bishop Brennan.• Pray for those affected by natural disasters or acts of violence
(COVID Pandemic; Tropical Storm Bertha).• A reminder to continue to practice safe distancing and wear
your masks for the safety of the parishioners!• We like to welcome those from Corpus Christi and St.
Ladislas! I'm excited this weekend because this is the first time our parishes have combined for Masses together and I know the parishioners at St. Mary's will welcome them with open arms!
• A word of congratulations to all graduates (8th grade/high school/college) from our parish! You have worked so hard toward your goal, and you have made many people very proud of you today. We pray that the Lord will continue to lead you and reveal His wisdom to you for every decision you make.

Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions Feast Day: June 3
One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the homosexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler’s demands. Charles first learned of Christ’s teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages.
On the night of Mukaso’s martyrdom for encouraging the African youths to resist Mwanga, Charles requested and received baptism. Imprisoned with his friends, Charles’s courage and belief in God inspired them to remain chaste and faithful.
For his own unwillingness to submit to the immoral acts and his efforts to safeguard the faith of his friends, Charles was burned to death at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, by Mwanga’s order. When Pope Paul VI canonized these 22 martyrs on October 18, 1964, he also made reference to the Anglican pages martyred for the same reason.
Like Charles Lwanga, we are all teachers and witnesses to Christian living by the examples of our own lives. We are all called upon to spread the word of God, whether by word or deed. By remaining courageous and unshakable in our faith during times of great moral and physical temptation, we live as Christ lived.Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions. SequenceVeni, Sancte Spiritus
Come, Holy Spirit, come!And from your celestial home
Shed a ray of light divine!Come, Father of the poor!
Come, source of all our store!Come, within our bosoms shine.
You, of comforters the best;You, the soul’s most welcome guest;
Sweet refreshment here below;In our labor, rest most sweet;Grateful coolness in the heat;Solace in the midst of woe.
O most blessed Light divine,Shine within these hearts of yours,
And our inmost being fill!Where you are not, we have naught,Nothing good in deed or thought,
Nothing free from taint of ill.Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour your dew;Wash the stains of guilt away:
Bend the stubborn heart and will;Melt the frozen, warm the chill;Guide the steps that go astray.
On the faithful, who adoreAnd confess you, evermore
In your sevenfold gift descend;Give them virtue’s sure reward;Give them your salvation, Lord;Give them joys that never end.
Amen. Alleluia.
The joyous veneration given to the Mother of God by the contemporary Church, in light of reflection on the mystery of Christ and on his nature, cannot ignore the figure of a woman (cf. Gal 4:4), the Virgin Mary, who is both the Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church. Indeed, the Mother standing beneath the cross (cf. Jn 19:25), accepted her Son’s testament of love and welcomed all people in the person of the beloved disciple as sons and daughters to be reborn unto life eternal. She thus became the tender Mother of the Church which Christ begot on the cross handing on the Spirit. Christ, in turn, in the beloved disciple, chose all disciples as ministers of his love towards his Mother, entrusting her to them so that they might welcome her with filial affection.
