The Tri-Angle Tournament

Pitting Pre-AP Geometry students from three area schools in a student-led

competition, designed to inspire higher order thinking and creativity. We want to see who can come up with the most imaginative challenge, and who can design the most inspired solutions.

Good luck!!!

How does it work? The Pre-AP Geometry students at one school put together a challenge. They will then present it to the two other schools, who will have at least a week to complete the task, and submit it. The students who sent out the challenge will then judge the two submissions, and declare a task

winner.

How does it work?

All three schools will have the opportunity to challenge the other

schools. This means that the students at each school will have the opportunity to

complete two School Challenges.

School ChallengesSchool Challenges should encourage higher-order thinking. They should be difficult, but it must be

possible for the students to complete the task in a week.

The task should involve something related to what we have covered, are covering or eventually will cover in

class. Everything in the world of Geometry is fair game!

School ChallengesEach school challenge should include:• Instructions for completing the challenge• An example of what a completed project might look like• A due date for when the project must be submitted• A grading rubric, listing how each project will be

judged

School ChallengesChallenge submissions will be returned to the

school who sent the challenge by the due date for judging.

The students who sent the challenge will judge based on creativity, accuracy, and how well the

submission meets the requirements of the challenge.

The Teachers’ ChallengeAfter all of the School Challenges have been completed and judged,

all three schools will be tasked with the same challenge, assigned and judged by your teachers. This final challenge will break any ties,

and decide our first Tri-Angle Tournament Champion!

Scoring

Each project may receive a maximum of 30 points• 0 to 10 points for mathematical accuracy• 0 to 10 points for meeting assignment requirements• 0 to 10 points for creativity

ScoringEach School Challenge project should be judged independently, and assigned a fair score. The Teachers’ Challenge projects will be judged on the same scale by all three teachers, or by neutral judges if some are available. The school with the most points will be the Champion!
