Slide 37 - Skills Assessment Scales (SAS)
Slide notes
Skills Assessment Scales - SAS
New worker cohort training now aligns concepts to the 52* skills assessment scales that Field Mentors use to rate new FCMs after training is complete.
In new worker training, each SAS anchor is indicated by one of the “SAS Kids” above and a note explaining the anchor to which the content aligns.
Field Mentors should refer to the training manual for more information about utilizing the SAS anchors and scoresheets for evaluating new FCMs.

Slide 38 - TOL
Slide notes
Transfer of Learning TOL activities are still an integral part of cohort training.
These should be occurring during the TOL sessions dispersed throughout the training schedule.
It is critically important that supervisors and field mentors make a conscious effort to work with the new FCM to ensure that they not only complete all
of the required TOL activities, but they also understand their importance and any county/regional aspects to each of them.

Slide 39 - TOL 2
Slide notes
The list of Computer Assisted Trainings (CATs) has been reduced considerably (and there are no longer worksheets associated with any of them).
While we continue to have challenges with ELM, you should refer new workers to the Training Partnership website for these CATs. Workers will be
expected to print a certificate of completion at the end of each CAT (instructions are included in each training).
You can access the partnership website at child welfare dot IU dot EDU

Slide 40 - TOL 3
Slide notes
Supervisors and Field Mentors should also be aware there will no longer be a travel representative coming to cohort training to assist new workers with
timesheets and travel reimbursement requests.
New workers will still be required to view a Travel Reimbursement CAT, along with an additional CAT that has been created from the in-class travel
presentation.
Supervisors and Field Mentors will want to make sure to help new workers through this process until they have become thoroughly familiar with it.

Slide 41 - TOL 4
Slide notes
Special Note:
The QUEST CAT will be discontinued for new worker cohort training in 2020. It will become the responsibility of field mentors, in counties that use
QUEST, to train new family case managers on that process.

Slide 42 - MaGIK
Slide notes
One of the biggest changes to new worker cohort is the transition of Magic training from the classroom to online. This was a natural progression since
Magic (and the training environment) were already online software programs.
This will allow new workers to move through the training material at their own pace (whether that be faster or slower).
Adobe Captivate Monday, February 24, 2020
Page 43 of 50
Slide 43 - MaGIK 2
Slide notes
With this evolution of training, it is critically important that the supervisor and field mentor monitor the new workers progress through this self-paced
training that is now a TOL activity.
New workers will be introduced to the Canvas LMS (online training platform) during the Getting to Know DCS classroom training. They will create a
Magic training profile during the first week of in-class training, but the rest is up to them (and you).
Adobe Captivate Monday, February 24, 2020
Page 44 of 50
Slide 44 - MaGIK 3
Slide notes
As a Supervisor/Mentor, it is important that you confirm with the mentee that they did create the profile during the classroom training. If not (or for
some reason they were not in attendance) it is your responsibility to ensure they complete this activity. (instructions are located in the participant
resources section of the Critical Thinking module).
Otherwise, they will not be able to progress through the Assessment or Permanency modules of the Magic training. If necessary, you can reach out to the
cohort sponsor if your mentee was absent and needs assistance.

Slide 45 - MaGIK 4
Slide notes
Things to know about the Magic training environment:
Even though the FCMs have the ability to approve their own work, they are not instructed to, and do not need to complete the scenario.
Although new workers will not be able to practice service referrals and CANS assessments, they will need to enter an Exception for the CANS in the
assessment.
Adobe Captivate Monday, February 24, 2020
Page 46 of 50
Slide 46 - MaGIK 5
Slide notes
All other required information should be entered into the assessment, including a CFTM.
The case should have the IA Plan, court hearings, a removal, a visit with Luke, a case plan, a staffing entered, and an Out of Home Risk and Safety
Reassessment uploaded.

Slide 47 - Laptop
Slide notes
In addition to Magic training, laptop training has been removed from the classroom.
To replace this training, a TOL activity entitled “Laptop Basic Functions Activities” has been added. This activity will take the new worker through the
various steps necessary to setup their computer and learn to navigate to important locations such as Sharepoint and other sites specific to DCS.
