For 35 years, SOMArts Cultural Center has celebrated and empowered the multifaceted communities of San Francisco by supporting and producing art that is culturally engaged, deeply social and political, and thrillingly experimental.

Established as a nonprofit in 1979, SOMArts was forged in the passionate activism of the neighborhood arts movement—a trailblazing initiative in San Francisco closely tied to the civil rights movements empowering cultural communities.

Today, SOMArts offers exhibitions, classes, performances and events that attract 30,000 people each year.
