  • Day in the life of a 2nd Grader

    • Students have a morning routine to follow. As they walk in they should unpack and take out any homework or notes from their folder. They should then begin their morning work.

    • Morning Work

    • Skills included are:

    • Math

    • Reading

    • Language/Grammar

    • Once Finished• Complete any unfinished work

    • Silent reading

  • Schedule

  • Reading

    * Reading Lessons will be a week long. This will be based

    on Journey books.

    • Monday will include whole group reading, introduction

    of spelling, and the reading skill of the week along with

    Daily Five.

    • Following the first day will be 3 days of Daily Five and

    small group work.

    • On Friday, students will be tested on comprehension of

    the story that we read as well as phonics and grammar

    skills. Every week the students will have a spelling test.

    • How does it work?

    Students will work through five authentic reading and writing choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring. These choices include:

    • Read to Self

    • Read to Someone

    • Listen to Reading

    • Word Work

    • Work on Writing

  • RAZ Kids

    • Developmentally appropriate leveled books at 27

    reading levels to increase comprehension and fluency.

    Students can read texts at their level and in their areas

    of interest anytime with 24/7 Web access to the

    practice they need to become better, more confident

    readers.

    • Measure and estimate lengths in standard units.

    • Reason with shapes and their attributes.

  • Math Homework• Homework will incorporate the skill(s) they have been

    learning.

    • Please stress to them to show their work!

  • Science/ Social Studies/

    Science: We will be using the FOSS Science System. We will be following the Georgia Performance Standards. Science

    does not have a textbook and is experiment based.

  • Rewards

    Tickets

    10 tickets = Treasure box

    20 tickets =Sit with teacher

    30 tickets= Lunch in class with a friend

    40 tickets= Bring a stuffed animal to school

    50 tickets= 5 extra minutes of recess for you and a friend

    60 tickets= homework pass

    100 tickets (One Time Prize)= IPod Mini

  • Homework Sent home each Monday, or first day of school week,

    along with that weeks spelling words

    • Is to be returned on Friday

    • Along with homework is the daily reading log

    • At least 20 minutes a night

    • Graded for completion.

  • Grades• All grades will be posted on ESchool

    • Grading Scales:

    A 90-Above

    B 80-89

    C 74-79

    D 70-73

    F Below 70

    NG No Grade

  • Field Trips• Money for field trips will be

    collected before the trip.

  • Questions about any of this?

  • Last but not least…

    • Donations of supplies (extra boxes of crayons, pencils, etc.), balls to play with on the playground, books, and treasure box items are greatly appreciated.

    • Students are allowed to bring a water bottle for their desks.

    • Remember a healthy snack each day.
