MISSION STATEMENT: Working with our community, we are dedicated to preparing our students for success in a rapidly

changing world by providing a supportive learning environment, which recognizes and respects individual difference, encourages

students to challenge personal limits and promotes excellence.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Pinetree Families:

As we head towards Spring Break there is a lot to celebrate from the cold wet months of

January and February. The weather has started to improve, and students are halfway

through a very difficult and different school year. As a school community we have worked

hard to keep our community safe. While we have had exposures at Pinetree they have all

been linked to the community and not spread through the school. We understand that

when there is an exposure at Pinetree a lot of information is communicated, and this can

be confusing and overwhelming for some parents. We remind you that the school is follow-

ing the guidelines set out by Fraser Health and our school district when we engage in expo-

sure notifications. We continually work towards minimizing the risk of exposures and

spread of COVID-19 in our building. We continue to rely on the support and diligence pro-

vided at home to make sure that we limit the spread of COVID-19. We are a large commu-

nity here at Pinetree and we cannot let our guard down as we head into what we all hope is

the home stretch of the pandemic.

On Monday March 8th we will have our quarter three mid quarter flip. Students will move

into hybrid mode in their morning class and their afternoon class will now become their

cohort class that they attend every day. Also, on Monday, March 8th student mid-term re-

port cards will be available via the Student Portal. Teachers should have already reached

out to parents about upcoming parent teacher interviews to support this report card on

March 11th. This is a great opportunity for parents to touch base with teachers if there are

concerns or questions about their students learning in the first half of quarter three.

Friday March 19th is the last day of classes before students start Spring Break. We hope all

students and families have a safe break. Students come back to school on Tuesday April 6th.

We hope all Pinetree families have a wonderful two week break and come back rested and

rejuvenated for the remaining three months of the school year.

Thank you,

Jeremy Clarke Principal [email protected]

STUDENT FEES & FORMS Due to the Global Pandemic, the Student Activity Fee was not charged this year. However, some students have outstanding fees from previous years, and/or charges for workbooks or lost/damaged textbooks or novels. A Grad fee has been added to gradu-ating grade 12’s accounts. All students are also required to have the following forms completed by their parent/guardian: District - School Policies Form 20-21 and District – Daily Health Check Form updated Sept 21st. Parents/guardians are asked to check their child’s Cash Online account regularly as items are added throughout the year. Paying school fees online is fast and easy, offers secure credit card payment, 24/7, and can be done from any computer or smartphone. Don’t have a School Cash Online account? Register in three simple steps: Create Your Profile: Go to https://sd43.schoolcashonline.com and click on “Get Started Today”. Confirm Your Email: Check your inbox for the email confirmation and click on the link inside. Sign in with your new login details. Add a Student: Click “Add Student” and fill in the required fields with your child’s details. For more information contact the Parent Help Desk at: [email protected] or phone 1-866-961-1803.

APRIL PROVINCIAL ASSESSMENT SESSION (APRIL 12- 16, 2021) Registration for this session is now complete. If you are a student in Grade 10 that is currently taking Composition 10 or Math 10 Pre Calculus or Apprentice & Workplace Math in Quarter 3 or you have previously registered with Ms. Walton you MUST check the posted lists in the Main Entrance Commons for your name, date and time for your scheduled assessment during the week.

Additionally, students who were missing an assessment or both have been registered for this session. If your child does not recall taking the assessments they too should check the lists for their name.

These assessments (Literacy & Numeracy) are required for graduation. Please note this year’s grade 12s only require the Numeracy Assessment.

CONSTRUCTION AT PINETREE WAY INTERSECTION Starting March 15th the City of Coquitlam has contractors removing existing pavement structures at the entrance to Douglas Col-lege and the Community Center. This is in order to install the new curb, sidewalk and traffic calming for bus stops and crosswalks. This work will cause delays and limit access to the road between Douglas College and the Community Center as well as access to the Community Center parking lot. The work is estimated to take seven weeks to complete.

We are reminding parents that students should not be dropped off or picked up in the south parking lot (Community Center lot). Parents should be using the drop off lane that is available outside the school staff parking lot or should be using Lot A in Town Center park. The Town Center parking Lot A is the best place for parents to drop off or pick up students as this is at the bottom of the student pedestrian overpass. The student pedestrian overpass leads right to the main doors of the school. Students ben-efit from the short walk from the parking lot to the school and parents can avoid construction delays.

AVOID BEING STUCK IN THIS There’s plenty of parking in LOT A!

COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT NEWS SD#43 CAREER PROGRAMS Students interested in choosing a specialized district trades program for their grade 11/12 year should be discussing their plans and options with their counsellor at this time. The Assessment Scheduled lists will be posted for viewing as of end of day March 10, 2021. Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Walton @ [email protected].

Graduating students are invited to apply for Pinetree Local Scholarships. The process will include applying for District Authority Awards. More information will be forthcoming regarding the online application process and deadline. Stay tuned! Students are encouraged to continue visiting the Financial Aid page regarding applying for current external scholarships.

FINAL REMINDER: STUDENT TRANSCRIPT SERVICE (STS) FORM

Students intending on pursuing a post-secondary program beginning Sept. 2021 must register for a BC Government account, a BCeID to access (STS). Students must order transcripts for post-secondary institutions. This process ensures that official transcripts are sent to post-secondary institutions.

In addition, universities require students to report ‘unofficial’ grades by ‘self-reporting’ or ‘uploading’ a transcript via their universi-ty student account or send a transcript by email through a school official. This reporting of grades is necessary for a student to re-ceive a ‘conditional’ offer of admission. Grades will be verified by the university when official grades are received electronically from the BC Government via the STS.
