A little about the teacher….

• Lived in Catawba County my whole life. (Balls Creek, Mill Creek, Bandys)

• Graduated from Appalachian State University.

• I wanted to be teacher because of my second grade teacher.

•As you can tell from my room, I love Dr. Seuss!

•One thing I love to do outside of school is horseback riding.

Classroom and School Expectations

• Students are expected to be on time to school so that they can have enough time to unpack, sharpen pencils, and be prepared for the school day. The instructional day is from 8:00 – 3:00.

• Attendance is on the Student/Parent Handbook in agenda • Students are expected to learn, have positive work-habits, exhibit

good character, and have fun at school.• Students are expected to use kind words, listen, share ideas,

encourage others, take turns, think before acting, accept the consequences of their behavior and do their best work.

• Communication is essential and it is important that we all (teachers, parents and students) communicate with each other.

• Students may have a water bottle to keep on their desk. They need to exhibit responsible self control so that it is not a distraction.

• Snacks brought to school should be nutritious so that learning and good behavior are supported. Please, no candy or junk food.

Discipline

Learning and safety are a priority in our classroom. Students are expected to do their best to follow class rules.

Agendas

• Students are expected to bring their agenda to school every day.

• Please use the clear plastic pocket for notes and lunch money. Students are expected to check this pocket every day and turn money and notes into the correct basket as they unpack.

• Specials and other events will be written every Friday afternoon in the agenda for the following week.

• Please check the clear plastic pocket daily, clean it out and initial your child’s agenda under School Talk.

Homework• Spelling units will begin September 9th. Tests will be given on

Fridays.• Students will read from a Take-Home book at least 4 days a

week.• Complete reading log with date, book and pages read.• Logs are to be signed by a parent to confirm the child read for

15-20 minutes. In addition, there will be 5-10 minutes for math, spelling review, or special projects.

• Take-Home books will begin on Monday, September 23rd.• Math homework (Superstars) will be given on Mondays and is

due by the end of each week. This will begin the week of October 7th.

• Your child is expected to turn in all assignments when they are due.

Cafeteria: in Student/Parent Handbook

• Breakfast cost is now $1.05 and lunch cost is $2.25.• Supplemental items at breakfast and lunch.• Money: All lunch checks should be written for lunch

payments only. Checks or cash should be placed in a sealed envelope with the student’s name (first and last), lunch number and teacher’s name written on it.

• Parents can pay online at www.lunchprepay.com with the student’s lunch number. There is a charge for this.

Please take home your child’s agenda, including annual paperwork. Return paperwork as soon as possible. Don’t forget to check out the tables in the room that have signs. “All About Me Bag” is due August 30th.
