Today’s Readings Acts 5:12-16
Psalm 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24 (R/. 1) Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19
John 20:19-31
Pastor, Fr. Henry A. Tutuwan
(980)616-6676
Lectura, as de Hoy Hechos 5:12-16
Salmo 117:1, 2-4, 13-15, 22-24 Apocalipsis 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19
Juan 20:19-31
Fear is mentioned or implied in all three read-
ings today. In the first reading, people held
back from joining these Christians even though
they held them in high esteem. Jesus tells
John in the second reading, “There is nothing
to fear.” In the gospel, the disciples are hiding
for fear and are assured by the appearance of
Jesus.
There is a tremendous amount of fear in con-
temporary society. Fear leads to paralysis and
disaster. When we are afraid we do rash
things; we are easily manipulated. Easter tells
us that we need not fear death. And if we need
not fear death, what could possibly make us
afraid?
One way of carrying the Easter message is in
the assuaging of fear. Do we try to alleviate
fear when we find it or do we add to it? What
part does fear play in our own life and vision of
the world?
Is our church a fearful or hopeful and confident
community? How can we help one another and
our neighbors to cast out fear in the light of
Easter?
muerte.
