How you can help at home When reading unfamiliar words,
encourage children to use their ‘phonic knowledge’.
Never cover illustrations as they support your child in working out the context and meaning of the word.
Always say the first sounds loudly and then get quieter.
Always make reading time special, quiet and enjoyable.
What about the ‘Tricky Words’? The ‘Tricky Words’ are also known
as ‘Irregular’ words and no matter how hard you try you cannot sound them out i.e.
the was come to do The first Tricky Words your child
has to learn are: to the no go I“ You can’t sound them out, you’ve
just got to know them”
Outline of what’s happening next.
Time for you to go into Reception class to spend time with your children.
You will see a range of differentiated phonics activities that your child accesses on a weekly basis. Have fun!
