    Sacramental Preparation

Registration, preparation and coordination of the Sacraments

of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation for all children

of the parish are done through IHM’s Faith Formation

Department. As envisioned by the Second Vatican Council, the

preparation for the celebration of these sacraments resides

within the family and the parish community. This

acknowledges parents as the primary educators of their

children in the ways of faith.

First Reconciliation preparation occurs about the age of 8

(2nd grade and older) and takes place before First Eucharist.

The program consists of 8 lessons taught by the parents at

home. Parents are required to attend 3 adult learning sessions

for their child. There is also 1 session for children and their

parents. Preparation begins on Sept. 30thand ends with a

service of prayers, readings and individual reconciliation

during Advent on Dec. 6th. The option exists for individual

    Reconciliation as well.

First Eucharist preparation occurs about the age of 8

(2nd grade and older) and consists of 8 lessons taught by the

parents at home. Parents are required to attend 3 adult

learning sessions for their child. There is also 1 session for

children and their parents. Preparation begins February 3rd

and ends with a group celebration during the Easter Season

    on April 19th.

Confirmation is a one year program designed for 10th graders

(or older) of the parish with the option of a Sunday morning

session from 9:15 to 10:15 AM, or Wednesday evening

session from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. Special Rites are included in the

weekend Liturgies twice a year during the Confirmation

process. The program also includes retreat days and service

outside the scheduled session times. Parent sessions are

scheduled in the fall and spring and a candidate/sponsor

session takes place mid - year. The candidates meet in both

large and small groups to explore community, faith, Church

teachings, prayer and service. The Confirmation program

allows candidates to integrate their knowledge from parental

teaching and past religion classes into a better understanding

of their beliefs and how they are called to respond as

    Christians.

Registrations forms are available on-line at www.ihm-cc.org.

By selecting the Faith Formation link you will access the

registration forms. Download and print the registration form as

well as automatic withdrawal forms. Registration forms should

be completed and returned (along with the signed automatic

withdrawal form and a cancelled check if a payment option is

chosen) by Aug. 15, 2014. **Please note: The fee for

Confirmation registrations received after August 15th is $250.

Completed forms can be dropped in the Sunday collection

basket or the Parish Office or mailed to 13505 Excelsior Blvd,

    Minnetonka 55345.

For more information please contact Marianne Charbonneau,

    Face your problems…don’t Facebook them.

    HOW DO YOU FIT IN?:

“Then he said to them, ‘why are you troubled? And why do

questions arise in your hearts. Look at my hands and my feet,

    that it is I myself.’”

These words from the Risen Christ are good advice when we are

contemplating our stewardship decisions. Just look at the hands

and feet of the Lord. How can we refuse to be the hands and

feet of Jesus here on earth … in this year 2014… when He

sacrificed His entire body for us.

Make plans to be at IHM for the weekend of Sept. 13/14th. You

will have an opportunity to visit representatives of the volunteer

groups that do the work of God in this Community. Perhaps you

will be inspired to take the next step on your faith journey.

    BOOK CLUB:

Prepare yourself for a very personal story if you plan to join us to

discuss… A HEARTBREAKING WORK of STAGGERING GENIUS by

Dave Eggers. You are welcome to join our discussion and share

your thoughts about his writing: Aquinas Library, Wednesday,

    August 13, at 10 AM.

    CONTINUING FAITH FORMATION:

Today I bring you a challenge. Which of these 10 statements are

    true?

1-Vatican II changed the Church from a monarchy to a

    democracy.

2-You’ll definitely go to heaven if you attend Mass and confess

    your sins.

3-We now know that the Bible contains mistakes.

4-When you get divorced you are excommunicated and can no

    longer receive Communion.

5-You can rely on your conscience to tell you what is right or

    wrong.

6-Every Catholic must go to confession at least once a year.

7-An annulment is a divorce for Catholics.

8-You sin if you don’t believe in Church-approved apparitions of

    Mary.

9-Pergatory is no longer a required doctrine.

10-Good works help us earn salvation.

    (Check this space next week!)

    PRAYER MINUTE:

Dear Lord, sometimes my life is a painful search filled with

doubts and anxieties; and all too often I allow myself to become

so panicked in trying to outrun my fears that I miss your

presence in my comings and goings. Have mercy on my

insecurities and help me build a strong conviction about the

beauty and goodness of life. Discouragement and doubt are so

easy to adopt. Help me to slow down and remember that you are

with me on this journey. Then my life will become a wonderful

    discovery.

  • SPOTLIGHT HOSPITALITY

    &

    LITURGICAL MINISTRY OF

    USHERS

For generations, ushers have assisted parish worship by

welcoming people, helping them find seats in church,

taking up the offertory, passing out parish bulletins and

assisting in emergency situations. This list of duties is

small but very important because an usher is often the

first person whom worshippers meet when they arrive at

church; and the usher has the opportunity and the

responsibility to represent the rest of the assembly in

offering hospitality. Ushers are a key role in the Ministry

    of Hospitality.

Ushers as Ministers of Hospitality play a vital role in

creating a sense of community for worship. A person

who feels welcomed and valued is more likely to enter

wholeheartedly into the celebration of the liturgy and

return as a member of parish community. A friendly and

welcoming usher can make God’s love apparent to

    people as they arrive.

Unfortunately here at IHM our current list of ushers is

extremely limited at each Mass. This places a lot of strain

on a few ushers to minister in this role almost every

weekend. This also places extra responsibility on our

sacristan to recruit ushers at the last minute right before

    Mass is to begin.

We need your help! Recruitment of new ushers will be

taking place over the next few weeks. Qualifications

include a warm smile and a desire to share hospitality

with others in our parish. A training session for all ushers

    will be scheduled in September.

If you are interested in serving in this very important

ministry at IHM, please contact Paul Lehman at

[email protected] . Ushers will also be hosting a

Hospitality Weekend this Saturday and Sunday to answer

    questions and continue recruitment.

Back-to-School Supply Drive Every Child Deserves a Chance

    at a Successful School Year!

Many families are unable to help their children prepare

for school by buying supplies. Programs like Resource

West’s Back-to-School Supply Drive help provide about

1,100 children in the western suburbs with the necessary

tools for their education. Registered K-12 students

receive not only backpacks, but many needed supplies to

help them through the school year. Supplies needed:

    new backpacks

    2-pocket folders

    Single subject notebooks

    loose leaf paper

    colored pencils (12 pack)

    plastic rulers

    washable markers

    glue sticks

    The inventory of necessary

supplies is vey low, while need for these items is very

high. If you would like to help, purchase any of the items

above and drop them off in S. Eleanor’s outer office by

August 29th. They will be delivered to Resource West’s

    Back-to-School Supply Drive.

The Right Tool for the Job…. The Custodians at IHM do such a great job of keeping the

Church, school and office space in terrific working order!

However, their jobs are sometimes made more

challenging because they don’t always have the tools

they need. Therefore, they have compiled a “Wish List”

to encourage donations from parish members looking for

    an opportunity to help.

    CUSTODIAL WISH LIST:

    3/8” 18 Volt cordless hammer

    drill

    Complete socket set

    Complete wrench set

    Variety of miscellaneous

    plumbing tools

Please check with Terry Ruttger, BA

    to discuss the parish needs.

If anyone is in need of a piano,

    please see Terry Ruttger, BA.

    IHM currently owns an upright

piano that is in need of a new

home. It is free to the first party

to claim it and pick it up.

    ICA is always looking for

    donations of canned goods—but

    don’t forget those extras from

the garden. If you find yourself

with more produce than you can

use, the ICA will gladly take your

    abundance and pass along the

    fresh food to their customers!
