N U R S E ’ S N O T E S YES, the power is

in your hands to

prevent the Flu!

Can you imagine if your family never got

sick again from a respiratory infection?

What are respiratory infections you may

ask? A respiratory infection is a common

viral infection that affects the nose,

throat, and airways. Respiratory infections include the flu, adeno virus,

RSV, common cold, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia,

Coxsackie virus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, TB and more!

The T Zone is the only portal of entry into the human body for ALL res-

piratory infections. The T Zone consists of the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Practicing the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness behaviors will help pre-

vent you from getting sick!

Thank you for helping to “Spread the word and not the germs!”

1. Do not touch the T-Zone

2. Hand wash regularly

3. Get vaccinated

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

During the month of December, we will focus on identifying and re-

specting feelings. The kindergarten and first grade students are talk-

ing about and demonstrating what it means to be a bucket filler at

Hampton. The concept of bucket filling is that everyone has an invisi-

ble bucket that holds their good thoughts and feelings. You feel happy

when your bucket is full and sad when it is empty. You need other people to fill your

bucket and other people need you to fill their buckets. You fill a bucket when you show

love to someone, when you say or do something kind, when you give a smile or when you

make someone feel special. We want all of our students to show respect for others and

be bucket fillers.

The holidays are upon us. We understand that travel increases during this time of year.

Please be mindful of student attendance. The school curriculum continues and students

will be busy learning until they are dismissed for holiday break. If you plan to be out of

town during instructional time, please notify the office and communicate with your

child's teacher to assure he/she has the work that needs to completed while absent.

Hampton Pride,

Hampton Pride.

She was Captain in

the U.S. Army fight.

And we’ll celebrate,

and honor,

her bravery, too.

We will rise,

we will rise.

Show our strength

beyond our size.

Oh Hampton,

we love you, we do.

The 4 Principles of Hand Awareness:

WASH your hands when they are dirty or before eating.

Do NOT cough into your hands.

Do NOT sneeze into your hands.

Do NOT put your fingers in your eyes, nose or mouth.

As your student continue to learn their basic skills, we will be incorporating our

LOCOMOTOR SKILLS (hoping, jumping, galloping, leaping, side-sliding, walking, running,

and skipping) into our Physical Education Classes. Through various activities, we will be

refining these skills, so encourage your student to practice at home. Please continue to

send your student to school on their P.E. Day with their gym shoes/tennis shoes on.

In both grade levels, we are going to begin to weave. Weaving is an old art form. People

used to use only woven material for their clothes. We are using weaving as an art form. I

try to include texture into this art form. This is done by using different kinds of yarns in

our weavings.

The unit we are studying in our FLES Spanish class (Foreign

Language in Elementary Schools) is Unit 3 “Me and My Community.”

The kindergartners identify supermarkets, hospitals, parks, and other places in the com-

munity in Spanish. They also pair-share and practice saying where they live. For example,

the students ask, “¿Dónde vives?” (Where do you live?). And, the students respond,

“Vivo en Fort Bragg.” (I live in Fort Bragg). In teams, they draw places in their community

on the same sheet of large paper.

The first graders identify different people in the community and where they work.

Students listen to the humorous, fictional, Tumblebook story titled, La Estacion de los

Bomberos (The Fire Station) written by Robert Munsch.

In addition, the kindergartners and first graders are reviewing Unit 1 “Me and My

School” and Unit 2 “Me and My Family.” The students are also learning the Spanish

alphabet. They are learning the letter names and letter sounds. The students are also

comparing and contrasting the Spanish alphabet with the English alphabet. The stu-

dents are learning to find the similarities and differences between the two alphabet

languages.

The Hampton Library has been

having lots of fun with our read-

ing teams. Kindergartners are

the Read-a-lot Readers, and the

first graders are part of Team

1-2-3 Read!

So many great books are being

read - and prizes are being

claimed. Thank you, parents,

for your support and for signing

all those home reading logs

and team forms! We will

continue our reading teams all year.

The holidays soon will be here, and we hope

you will fill your children’s stockings with lots

of good books! Remember, a book is a

present you can open again and again.

Happy Reading!!!
