Who is Mrs. Lancaster? Married to Rob who is

in the Coast Guard. I have an 18 year old

daughter that is in college.

I have 2 dogs and a very old cat.

I am originally from South Carolina.

I love to travel.

I have taught every grade except first.

Fourth grade is my favorite!

I have taught every subject, but reading is my favorite.

I have taught the Common Core Standards for 5 years, so I am familiar with them.

Who is Ms. Rhoden? I graduated from

Clay High School. I have a sister that

a lot of people looks just like me.

I enjoy vintage things.

I play the guitar.

At my previous school my class had a garden.

I have taught all the subjects.

My favorite subject is math!

Who is Mrs. Shaw? I have been married to

Mr. Shaw for almost 38 years.

I am a grandma. I have two grandchildren.

I am originally from Virginia.

My daughters are grown up and have their own families, but…

I have a Siberian Husky, named Akira!

I have been a teacher since 1980

I have taught all grades Pre-K through 6, ESE and Gifted

I love teaching, reading, quilting, and riding my bike with my dog.

I also love to paint and draw.

your child will be doing throughout the year.

Communication Fourth Grade students bring home

a daily communication calendar. Please check and sign each day.

Tuesday folders come home once a week, but papers may also be send home in the black daily folder that

contains the agenda book.

Other ExpectationsDuring transitions, move quickly, and at a zero voice.

To participate in class.

To sit at their desk on their pockets, tushed and pushed.

To be prepared each and everyday.

To follow directions the first time.

To sit criss-cross during carpet time.

To walk in a straight, still, zero voice line.

Consequences 1st time- Student will lose

a point.

2nd time- Student will lose another point.

3rd time- Student will receive a Write Out that will need to be signed.

4th time- Teacher will send a note/phone home, and they will receive a Guidance referral.

5th time- Office referral

*Severity Clause- If a student does something that is deemed harmful to himself, others or property, I reserve the right to change the consequences and involve administration immediately.

*Habitual Clause- If a student habitually breaks the rules or causes problems the consequences may be changed.

Grading Procedures10% of their grade is homework – I do not grade or correctness, I grade for accuracy and completion.

10% of their grade is participation and performance- Are they actively engaged in the learning? Are they sharing their ideas, answers and collaborating with peers? Did they come prepared?

40% of their grade is class work- This is their journals, workbooks, student response book, group activities, and other activities.

40% of their grade is assessments- This is end of unit tests, chapter tests, and quizzes.

Homework Policy• Homework counts for 10% of your child’s grade. It is important for him

or her to bring it in COMPLETED each day.

• They will always have 20 minutes of reading with a response and a written response.

• Any missed assignments from the school day will be sent home as well.

• A homework folder is provided to help them to be successful!

• Homework Scoring:• 25 points= Fully completed and all parts of the prompt are answered.• 12 points= Incomplete or a day late homework.• 0 points= Given to students that do not turn in homework.

• There are 25 points possible each day for 4 days for a total of 100 points.

Our Reading Classroom Check out our reading nook, it’s filled

with lots of up-to-date books your child will love.

Have your child show you their reading log- they have really been working hard on it.

Have your child show you their class’ fiction story we created.

Our day: Reading lesson where I read

to them and we discuss as a group.

Class read-a-loud where I read to the class a book that is simply meant for enjoyment.

Math Facts It is imperative that students know

their multiplication facts. Students will be given weekly timed

multiplication quizzes. Facts can be practiced at home with flash

cards, on the That’s A fact website (link can be found on the SPC

webpage), or they can write them.

Resource Tennis shoes are

required on PE days.

Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for PE days.

Writing/Social Studies Usually no

homework! We will have

projects in social studies

We will learn all about Florida!

Prepare to write a great deal!

Your writing is going to improve very much this year.

I can’t wait to read the stories you will tell.

Why’s?This year you may not see as many graded papers coming home. Why?We have reading journals, Making Meaning workbooks, and our 3-ring binders. These items are things that we add to and build upon as the year goes on. We also use them to go back and reflect on our learning.

You may see papers coming home that appear to NOT be graded. Why?We graded them together in class. They may have exchanged papers with a student or graded their own when we went over it. So, if you see errors on their papers and it isn’t marked, we discussed it and went over the correct ones.
