Innovation!!

Wednesday Schedule“We are also excited about some new things that will be

happening with our schedule, every other Wednesday the students will have the opportunity for an additional 30 minutes of PE, Art, Music and Library! While on the opposite Wednesday, the students will be introduced to "Innovation Hour" which is a time that the teachers will be incorporating STEM and inquiry based activities into the classroom.

The final change to our instructional time, is the addition of "WIN Time", also known as "What I Need Time", this time will be used to help meet the individual needs of each student. We like to think of it as personalizing the learning experience and allowing students the time that they need to catch up or even the time that they need to get enrichment.”

Grading and Assessments

Mayfield City Schools has updated its grading practices for the 2015-2016 school year. Students’ performance in three categories will be displayed in Infinite Campus.

Formative: Formative assessments are conducted during the course of instruction to gauge the student’s learning. Feedback from formative assessments helps the teacher know how to adjust instruction, and helps the student know where to focus attention. Formative assessment scores will be reported in Infinite Campus but will not count in a student’s grade.

Summative: Summative assessments are conducted at the end of a unit of instruction and are intended to determine the student’s level of understanding. This assessment can take the form of a paper and pencil test, online test, project, presentation, performance, observation etc. Summative assessment scores will count in student’s grade.

Homework: Homework is practice of concepts and skills introduced in the classroom, or preparation for subsequent lessons. As such, it does not provide evidence of achievement. Homework completion will be monitored in Infinite Campus but will not count in student’s grade.

Progress performance in these categories will be reported and available in Infinite Campus throughout the quarter. Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s achievement throughout the school year.

Report CardsIn addition to the real time reporting, Infinite Campus will also display a report card at the

end of the quarter. The report card will report an overall grade and how a student is performing on the standards assessed.

Grades 4-5 Course overall grades will be reported on a traditional letter grade scale. This

is the same scale used at the middle school. In addition to the overall grade, all students will have progress reported on the standards that are

assessed in any given quarter using the following scale posted at the end of the quarter on the report card.

MS (Mastered Standard) – indicates that the student has consistently and expertly met the standard

with independence AS (Approaching Standard) - indicates that the student is nearing mastery of the standard or they are

making satisfactory progress toward the standard NI (Needs Improvement) – indicates the student is in definite need of assistance in order to meet the

standard

• We have worked very hard to develop our classroom rules based on the goals all of the children would like to reach this year. Our logical consequences were developed to help us reinforce our classroom rules.
