Welcome to First Grade
Arrival / Dismissal
• Children may come into the classroom at 7:50 A.M. This gives time to unpack and get supplies ready for the day.
• Instruction begins promptly at 8:20 A.M.• Instruction continues until 3:10 P.M., please
limit early dismissals.• If a child will be going home a different way,
call the attendance office or send a note in the morning.
Lunch Money
• Send all lunch money in an envelope with your child’s name, teacher’s name and child’s pin number.
• Money can be placed in an account online.
What does your child need each day?
• Backpack
• Agenda
• Homework folder
• Book Bag (starting the mid October)
• A change of clothes may be kept in the backpack for emergencies.
• A light sweater or jacket may be needed.
Homework• Check your child’s agenda each night for assignments.
• Phonics/Word Wall Homework is to be completed in the spiral. The choices of activities are to be done with all of the words – spelling & word wall. This spiral is returned on Friday.
• Other assignments mentioned in the agenda are to be completed that night and returned the following day.
• The Poetry spiral will come home on Friday and returned the following Monday. This gives the children the opportunity to practice their fluency in reading the poems. Please complete the signature page.
• Baggy books will come home each night and returned the next day. (Mon.-Thurs.) Your child should be reading at least 5-10 min. This will increase as the year progresses.
Specials Schedule• Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are PE
days. Please wear the appropriate shoes for participation.
• Music will be Monday and Thursday.
• Art will be on Thursday.
• Library books are to be returned on Thursday.
• Lunch is 11:15-11:45.
Folders
• Tuesday folders come on Tuesday.• Please return on Wednesday.• Needs to be signed. • This is 1 way that we can
communicate with each other. Please feel free to write down any concerns you may have.
Grading
• Grades are not just taken from paper work.
• Group Activities• Oral Participation• Starboard Activities• e instruction
• MG=major grade
Report Cards
• Sent home after the end of a 9 week period.
• Progress reports sent mid way.• Numerical grades given in English
Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies.
• E, S, N, U given in other areas and behavior.
• Progress can be checked on Gradespeed.
Behavior Expectations•Use a quiet voice when
working with a partner or small group.
•Stay in the area assigned.•Complete assignments.•Be respectful of the person
who is talking.
Brilliant Broncos• Wow chart tracks behavior.
• Children given opportunities to move up as well as down with incentives & rewards.
• School wide – zones help monitor behavior
• Hallway hands expected • Zone 0 means no talking, voices off• Zone 1 means whisper, partner voices• Zone 2 means chat (visiting voice used at lunch)
Birthdays / Book Club
• Invitations may only be handed out if the whole class (or all boys, all girls) are invited.
• Strictly voluntary…Scholastic orders provide personal books & help provide books/resources for our classroom.

September 28th. If you would like to refer your child for Klein’s Gifted and Talented Program, please stop
by the front office and pick up a referral packet.
