I think ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is misdiagnosed. Too many children are wrongly diagnosed, simply because they are misbehaving. It is very common in school age children and sometimes teachers with difficult students will tell them they are ADHD. I know because this happened with my daughter.

ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a very common neurobehavioral condition. The symptoms include hyperactivity, difficulty in concentrating, and poor impulse control. According to 2003 data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “ 4.4 million (or 7.8 percent) of children aged 4-17 had at some time been diagnosed with the condition by a health-care professional, and 2.5 million (4.3 percent) were currently receiving medication treatment for the disorder”( Funk & Wagnalls). This statistic proves that there potentially are misdiagnosed cases of ADHD.

Hugonnier, B. (2007). Globalization and education: Can the world meet the challenge? In Learning In the Global Era: International Perspectives on Globalization and Education, Marcelo M. Suarez-Orozco, Ed. Berkeley, CA: University of CA Press, p. 137-157.

This chapter emphasizes the main theme of this book – immigration. Due to globalization on all levels, mostly economic, people are moving around the globe much more than at any other time in history. Reasons for this mobility are mostly economic, such as jobs moving to other countries, which change the needs and demands of the workforce and leads people to have to constantly retrain and learn new skills. It also considers two key questions: Can educational institutions keep up? Do they? No concrete conclusions are made.

Magyar, B. (2006). Humanistic and academic core values: The responsive and responsible reform of the European university.

Higher Education in Europe, 31(4), 391-394.   This article discusses the fundamentals of the Bologna Process and outlines the challenges European universities face. One

of the key issues is the difference between the university being proactive or reactive. “The university should not only be responding in a proactive manner to social needs, but should also be able to shape those needs. There is a need for universities to be responsible in a proactive way rather than to merely act in a responsive way” (p. 392). The challenges seem to be well worth their effort as the author clearly supports the Bologna Process and what it will bring for Europe in the years ahead.

Olaniran, B. (2007). Challenges to implementing e-learning in lesser-developed countries. In Globalized E-Learning Cultural

Challenges, Andrea Edmundson, Ed. Hershey: Information Science Publishing, p. 18-34.   This chapter re-emphasizes my initial thoughts when I first began my inquiry into global learning: how do different

cultures interact with the technology in an online classroom. This chapter is mainly a literature review on globalization in education and provides some examples of how collectivist vs. individualistic cultures view technology in online education, as well as the role of the instructor. Collectivists are more inclined to feel out of control and want the teacher as a guide throughout the course. Individualistic cultures are more in-tune with the Western philosophy of online education being the responsibility of the learner and where the instructor acts more as a guide.

Unit 5 project: Outlining before writing an essay will help you

identify your main points, organize them well, and catch important elements you may have missed. Your outline must include your thesis statement and a minimum of three main points. These should refer directly to the points you plan to include in your essay. Each point must include two supporting details and evidence that supports those points. The more complete your outline, the easier it will be to write your informative essay.

Unit 7 Project:This project is the first draft of your informative essay. Your draft must be at least five paragraphs long. The paragraphs (introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion) should function as described in this course. In this draft, you should provide specific, focused analysis of your main points, supported by your sources. You must address at least three sources in this draft. These sources must be correctly cited, following APA citation guidelines for in-text citation and the references page.

Unit 9 final project: Your Final Project for this course will be a 4-to-7-page, double-

spaced informative essay. You should document all sources using APA citation. Your essay will use a variety of sources, and will be based on the topics included in Unit 1 under “Final Project Information.”

A successful project will:   Provide a clearly identifiable 3-point thesis. Clearly and accurately support key points in well-developed

paragraphs with topic sentences and correctly cited research. Include support from at least three sources. Include a title page and references page, which are in addition to

its 4-7 pages of length (double-spaced, twelve-point font).
