Welcome to Australia ANU GLOBAL PROGRAMS Orientation Program VOLUNTARY PRE-ORIENTATION ACTIVITY 2019 has seen the expansion of our orientation programming and the addi- tion of our ‘Welcome to Australia’ orientation trip. Students were met in Sydney, many fresh off the plane, by Global Programs team members and the Barefoot Downunder team; two facilitators of this trip. There were ice breaking games, a historical walk around Sydney, a traditional Welcome to Country by an indigenous elder, plenty of beach selfies, and a dolphin cruise to wrap it up. The students on this trip created a great friendship group and support network that they continue to engage with well into the semester. WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA FIRST COMPULSORY EVENT FRIDAY PRE-ORIENTATION The Global Programs team has put together a fantastic pre-orientation week session for our Inbound Study Abroad and Exchange students. This session grants these stu- dents early and exclusive access to essential university services, an opportunity to sort out their final course se- lections and is a social opportunity to meet their peers and create a sense of community. They have the opportunity to speak to ANU support staff, hear about what ANU has to offer and also have Australian reptile and beach safety presentations. It’s a great way to kick off their journey at ANU and the students have so much fun! VOLUNTARY ACTIVITY CANBERRA TOUR We are so proud to be Canberran and love to show off what we have to offer here. Postgraduate and upper-level undergraduate students from any academic discipline are eligible to apply.

Exchange and study abroad students must apply directly to ANIP via the online application form available on the ANIP website (anip.anu.edu.au) as well as complete the required application process of their home university. Applications are open from August to September for internship placements in semester one (February to June), and March to April for internship placements in semester two (July to November).

The application form askes about your research strengths and career aspirations so that you can be shortlisted for projects on offer with ANIP hosts. You will need to upload a two-page Curriculum Vitae outlining your educational qualifications and work experience, along with an academic tran-script of results from your home university. One referee report is also required, and it must be from a referee who can comment on your academic performance or research skillsANIP internships are unpaid as they are focused on an applied policy research project. The re-search project forms 70% of the final mark for the ANIP course, with other assessment covering research design (10%) and a work-in-progress presentation (20%).
