About Paraná State

About Ponta Grossa The city was founded on March 24, 1862, but
before you have fixed settlement was covered
by many expeditions due to its Geographical
location, which became mandatory for landing
troops. With the arrival of the railroad tracks,
Ponta Grossa became a major commercial
center and even today is considered the largest
road and rail junction in southern Brazil. PG has
about 314,000 inhabitants and belongs to one of
the most populous regions of Paraná: Campo
Gerais of Paraná, which comprises a population of
800,000 inhabitants. The city is the fourth most
populous of Paraná.

FENATA – Festival Nacional de Teatro Amador The Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa has held since 1973. FENATA is one of the oldest theater festivals in the country. The Festival occurs in November and has feature the participation of more than 700 theater from various regions of the country. A differential phenate is that it also has street shows, which are conducted in the Parque Ambiental and in other spaces.
Munchen Fest The Festa Nacional do Chop Escuro is a popular festival in Ponta Grossa. The event lasts ten days, usually between November and December. It is already a traditional event is the traditional opening parade of the party with the queen, decorated cars and blocks. Soon after, the revelers head to the center of events in the city where the party happens.
FUC Festival Universitário da Canção The event was created in 1980, but went through financial difficulties and its realization was discontinued in 1986. The festival was again held in 1995. The event usually happens in June and the consists of musical performances of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), and other genres.

Gastronomy Pinhão
It is a seed tree "Araucaria", typical vegetation of southern and southeastern Brazil. In Paraná, the “pinhão” is the symbol of the state and a much appreciated food, or can be eaten roasted or baked.
Feijoada
Is a stew of beans with beef and pork. In Brazil, feijoada is considered by many as the national dish.
Pão de Queijo
Is a brazilian recype from Minas Gerais state. Pão de Queijo is made mainly from cheese, eggs and salt.
Brigadeiro Is the most famous Brazilian sweet. It was created in 1940, its ingredients are condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter and chocolate sprinkles to cover. “Brigadeiro” can be done on the stove or in microwave oven. It is a sweet that is present in all birthday parties.
Chimarrão
Chimarrão is composed of yerba mate, mixed with warm water. It has a bitter taste, more or less, depending on the yerba mate. It is a very popular drink in south Brazil and can be called "community drink" because it is usually consumed when the family gathers or when they have guests.
Guaraná
Guaraná Antartica is a soft drink made from Guarana fruit, which exists only in Amazon.
Do(s) and Don’t(s) DO Eat churrasco, pastel and pão de queijo and drink Guaraná and chimarrão; Cook typical meal for AIESECers – we love to Try new recipes ; Pay attention when crossing the street: even When it’s green, and even on a zebra street. Not all brazilians drivers are disciplined and stop for pedestrians; Learn basic Portuguese; Understand that a successful program depends upon their own initiative just as much as it depends upon the host committee; Expresses views openly and honestly with the Host Local Committee members and helps them to see themselves through different eyes.
DON’T Be closed to new culture and new friends; Think your host family have the obligation to drive you everywhere; Come to Ponta Grossa without any jacket (it is Brazil but it’s cold sometimes!); Forget to bring copy of all your documents and also leave a copy with someone you trust in your country;

Arriving in PG In Afonso Pena airport in Curitiba you have to take the executive bus (it costs R$10,00) to the bus station (first stop from the airport). In the bus station you have to go to the Princesa dos Campos ticket office and buy to the next bus to PG (ticket to PG costs around R$30,00). AIESEC Ponta Grossa will be waiting for you in the bus station from our city ps: You have the option to buy your ticket to PG on internet and pay with credit card. You just have to attempt about the schedules. If you prefer to buy it on internet you still have to go to the Princesa do Campos guiche and change the voucher you printed for your ticket .
