7. Useful Information

Timetable, exams and courses

Timetables for the autumn of 2021 will be available at: https://www.moodle.aau.dk/

When you have activated your student account (information received separately), you will

be able to go into Moodle and you will then have to enrol in ‘the study secretariat for CCG’.

Then you will find information available on timetable, exams, study regulations, semester

information etc. You will also have to enrol in all courses that you are taking as well.

Below are some basic information about your semester, but these will also be explained at

the semester introduction, where there will also be a chance to ask follow-up questions.

On your first semester you will be expected to take four exams in order to complete the

semester (30 ECTS is required to complete a semester):

A project exam within the thematic framework “Global Processes” (15 ECTS)

An exam in Philosophy of Science and Methodology (5 ECTS)

An active participation exam in the module “Profile Course 1” (5 ECTS) within one

of the three academic profiles below

An elective exam (5 ECTS) “Current issues I” or an areas specialization exam in

one of the following areas: Arctic Studies, Chinese Area Studies, Latin American

Studies, Global Gender Studies

As a vantage point, all CCG students are expected to follow three core courses as well as

two so-called profile courses that students choose themselves:

Core courses:

Globalisation

Cultural Worlds/Worlds of Culture

Philosophy of Science and Methodology

Profile courses:

Online Market Communication

Page 10: Welcome to Aalborg University

10

Global consumer culture

Organisational Leadership and Intercultural Competence

Organizational Culture and Communication

Social movements and Global Democracy

International migration and ethnic relations

Furthermore, there will be elective courses on offer, one in a topic central to current

research in the field of culture and/or communication in a globalisation context, and others

relating to various specializations (one course for each specialization) that are also

relevant issues within Culture, Communication and Globalization:

Current Issues in CCG

Arctic Studies

Chinese Area Studies

Latin American Studies

Global Gender Studies

Course descriptions are available in Moodle, and during semester introduction, the

structure of the programme will be explained further.

Aalborg University Library (AUB)

At the library you will of course find many of the books relevant for your studies at CCG, as

well as the latest issues of academic journals (a plethora of these available via online

databases), international newspapers, computers, reading room, audio listening facilities,

etc. Furthermore, there is free Internet access via the library computers. The central library

is located at Kroghstræde 3. For further information, visit the homepage at

https://www.aub.aau.dk/afdelinger/kroghstraede and join the library workshop later in the

semester (see schedule in Moodle for date and time).

University Bookstore

In the bookstore − at Fibigerstræde 15 − some literature needed for courses offered at

CCG will be made available (most readings will be made available for downloading via the

website). The bookstore also sells the stationary you will need as a student at Aalborg

University. For further information, visit: http://ftu.dk/

Each building has at least one copy room with high-speed copying machines available for

students. An AAU web shop will be available to purchase prints/copies.

Access to AAU IT systems

You should already have received a letter explaining how to access the IT system and how

to create your own user profile.

Information is also available at http://www.en.its.aau.dk/, e-mail: [email protected]

Introduction to Campus Service/AAU Map

At the following link you will find useful information about Campus service:

http://www.en.campusservice.aau.dk/

Find your way around Aalborg University:

With AAU Map you may easily find your way

to classrooms, work spaces, canteens,

libraries and other relevant locations at

Aalborg University. The app makes it easy to

navigate around AAU - simply use the

search function and let the app guide you to

an address or a specific room.

How does AAU map work?

AAU Map works similarily to other navigation apps via GPS. You can search for addresses

or specific room numbers at AAU, and once you have entered a location, the route shows

on a map that guides you from your current position to your desired destination.

Page 12: Welcome to Aalborg University

12

Get the app in App Store or Google Play.

University canteens

The University has five canteens; one of the canteens is at Kroghstræde 3. Here you can

purchase full meals, sandwiches, hot snacks, coffee, soft drinks, etc. Opening hours at

Kroghstræde are: Monday through Friday: 9.00am – 2.00pm.

Exams

You must register for courses/exams via the STADS system. All students must register for

a total of 30 ECTS each semester (equivalent to one complete semester). Registration is

open between September 15 – October 1, via STADS Self-service:

www.students.stads.aau.dk

Please note: proper registration for courses is your responsibility. A condition for entering

an exam is that you have registered for a given course. If in doubt, please contact your

8. Relevant Offices and Bodies at Aalborg University

Study Board for Cross-Cultural Studies

The Study Board is the main administrative body for students enrolled in the CCG

programme. Some of the tasks of the Board are: planning each semester, evaluating past

semesters, and granting exemptions from the curriculum, merits etc. Students occupy two

are currently student representatives (URL:

https://www.kultur.aau.dk/uddannelser/studienaevn/cross-cultural-studies/

The International Office

students with many of the practical things related to being a foreign student at Aalborg

University. Among other things they arrange for you to have a Danish ‘buddy’. Moreover,

the International Office can assist you in finding an internship placement abroad. For

further information, visit their homepage at http://internationaloffice.aau.dk.
