To achieve our “Goal” for the year… Engage students with more f2f time! Live Virtual Lessons:
By: Diana Lenartiene, Ed. S. Indian River State College
Elluminate is a virtual classroom program which has been purchased for our use by Indian River State College and the Florida Adult Technical Distance Education Consortium (FATDEC). It is web based.
There are two ways to log in to this program; either as a teacher (called moderator in the program), or as a student. Students do not need login and password credentials for this program.
The purpose of Elluminate is to offer a virtual classroom with many tools available to the teacher/moderator to increase retention, completions, and transitions. It is also being used with the ANGEL classroom.
Allows you to interact with many students at the same time, no matter where they are located.
Provides audio , chat and even video communication
Brings you and your students together in a distance
learning environment Affords you the academic freedom to develop your own
curriculum to utilize specific standards to meet student academic needs
Synthesizes and synchronizes a social/academic teacher-
student network Integrates the wonders of technology with the
personalization of a virtual classroom setting
Now let’s take a live look at the student section of Elluminate. www.liveVirtualLessons.wordPress.com/ Click on #4 http://tiny.cc/irscLive! To see what the student sees!
Visit http://irscElluminate.blogspot.com to see all these steps. Essentially, the first thing to do is to choose select the time you want to offer the
lesson! Next, choose the topic for your lesson and find the SSS which match the lesson
you will prepare. Next, create a power point presentation of your lesson. For videos, you must save the link in a word processor file to use when you are actually In the Elluminate program. Because all power point slides are saved as pictures, You will NOT be able to click on anything to start it from your power point. Now, load your power point and go through the presentation. To load it, • Open the Elluminate workroom • click on the file folder icon • wait for our power point to finish loading. • To scroll through the slides, use the arrows a the top of the whiteboard When finished previewing the power point, test any videos you are planning To use in your lesson to be sure they work for you. We strongly suggest that you try a lesson before you want to present one to students.
We also suggest that you start out with a simple power point lesson and work your way up to adding more materials, such as videos and web sites, but be aware, this is a powerful program which can do lots of exciting things with your lesson once you get familiar with Elluminate. If you do this, you will become an Elluminator Extraordinaire over time.
We will now open another screen and show you how to use some of the attributes of this wonderful program. Please feel free to raise your hand anytime you have a question during this presentation.
If you try to go into the moderator page of the workroom while another person is already in there working, you will NOT be able to access this room as the moderator or teacher. We do have a backup Elluminate workroom for teachers at this link, or Meeting Room III (moderator): https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=2011095&miuid=B8337288555956F4B2A25A2646AA0DBD
You will then be able to work on lessons you wish to try out in the alternate workroom.
