What is Digital Communication?


Data transmission, digital transmission, or digital communications is the physical transfer of data over a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communication channel. Examples of such channels are copper wires, optical fibers, wireless communication channels, storage media and computer buses. The data are represented as an electromagnetic signal, such as an electrical voltage, radio-wave, microwave, or infrared signal.

“ADCL-01” initiates the user to the various Data Conditioning and Carrier Modulation Techniques, normally adopted in practice.

The Digital data in the systems can be encoded in several formats. All these waveforms can be broadly classified into the following four groups : -

1. Non-return to Zero formats,

2. Return to Zero formats,

3. Phase encoded formats,

4. Multilevel binary formats.

“DCL-QPSK initiates the user to QPSK / DQPSK Modulation and Demodulation technique adopted in practice.

The trainer comes with an onboard data simulator, which generates the NRZ-L pattern depending on positions of 8-bit switch and data clock of 256 KHz.

DCL-GMSK

• The trainer comes with an onboard data simulator, which generates the NRZ-L pattern depending on positions of 8-bit switch and data clock of 256 KHz which enables the trainers to work in a stand-alone mode.

• Two carrier modulation options are available on the kit.• Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying. (GMSK).• Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying. (GFSK).

• Following options are available for detecting the information from the carrier:• “DMOD I” and “DMOD Q” signals which are the output of the LPF of

GMSK Demodulator.• GFSK demodulation using Zero crossing detection techniques.

• Interconnection facilities:Sockets and patch chords are provided for on board connections.

• Test Points:All relevant test points are brought-out for observations.

Observations are carried out on DSO.

• Power Supply: +5V, +12V,-12V, GND.

• DCL-Base Band Digital Transmission System kit is an Advanced Digital Communication Trainer kit.

• A single board unit designed to learn the fundamentals of base band digital transmission system including properties of transmitter and receiver filters, Pulse Amplitude Modulation of binary data, Band Limiting, observation of Eye Pattern, Bit Error Rate measurement, study of coding operation like Scrambling and Unscrambling.

“DCL-QAM ” initiates the user to the various Data Conditioning and Carrier Modulation Techniques, normally adopted in practice.

The System illustrates the use of the following data formats : a) Non Return to Zero - Level (NRZ-L), b) Tribit encoded data c) Differentially encoded EVEN & ODD.

The trainers come with an onboard data simulator, which generates the NRZL pattern depending on the positions of \ switches of 8-bit DIP switch and the reference clock (256 KHz), which enable the trainers to work in a standalone mode.


DCL-QAM : QAM / DQAM MODULATION / DEMODULATION KIT


DCL-CONV

The trainer comes with an onboard data simulator, which generates the NRZ-L pattern depending on positions of 8-bit switch and the selectable data clock of 256 KHz or 1 Hz which enables the trainers to work in a stand-alone mode. The selectable data clock enables the user to observe the convolution encoding and viterbi decoding both at slow frequency as well as high frequency.

DCL-CONV : Convolution Encoder And Viterbi Decoder Kit


DCL-DPCM

“DCL-DPCM ” initiates the user to study about the DPCM modulation and demodulation technique with quantization error.

At the time of PCM process, the differences between input sample signals are minimal. Differential PCM (DPCM) is designed to calculate this difference and then transmit this small difference signal instead of the entire input sample signal.

Since the difference between input samples is less than an entire input sample, the number of bits required for transmission is reduced. This allows for a reduction in the throughput required to transmit voice signals.
