Read to Achieve

Read to AchieveRead to Achieve law offers multiple supports for

children as they build reading ability.

By the end of third grade, students must show minimal proficiency on at least one

indicator...our goal is to increase proficiency on all!

● BOG - Beginning of Grade Test● Portfolio Passages - Students read passages and answer

questions throughout the year● RI - Reading Inventory (LEXILE)● TRC - Text Reading Comprehension Assessment● EOG - End of Grade Test● RtA Test - Read to Achieve Test● IEP exemption according to federal special education laws

Let’s look at your score report...

*NOTE* This is based on expectations for the end of the year

The EOG, BOG, and

Portfolio consist of

reading passages and

questions. Sample

Let’s look at one...

The LEXILE Framework

for Reading helps

match students

reading to text. A

score of 725 indicates

grade level

proficiency.

Reading Inventory - LEXILE

Let’s look at the website...

https://fab.lexile.com/

The LEXILE Framework for Reading helps match

students reading to text. A score of 725 indicates

grade level proficiency.

Reading Inventory - LEXILE

Our closest indicator to how students will perform on the reading

EOG is their accurate Lexile level which is measured by the RI

(Reading Inventory). Below is a list of Lexile correlation with EOG

achievement levels.

Level 3 Sufficient Command Lexile score of 725L - 790L

Level 4 Solid Command Lexile score of 795L - 1025LLevel 5 Superior Command Lexile score of 1220L and above

Text Reading Comprehension - TRC

Let’s look at a sample...

TRC is an individually administered assessment that uses leveled readers from a book set to determine a student’s instructional reading level — the reading level at which he or she not only performs well, but is challenged.

During this measure, students read an authentic text and complete a number of follow-up tasks, which may include Oral Comprehension and/or Recalling or Retelling. Assessors observe and record the student’s oral reading behaviors through the administration of a reading record to determine reading accuracy. Written comprehension components are used to help determine whether the student understands the meaning of the text.

What the school and teachers are doing... What families can do:

Core Reading Instructional Program - Daily● Whole Group Reading● Small Group Reading● Writing● Intervention

● Parents should attend parent conferences and school events - communicate with the teacher

● Students should read every night● Students should be reading fiction and

nonfiction● Parents should listen to children read

aloud and ask questions about their reading

● Parents should read higher level material to expose students to vocabulary

● Parents should use online resources to assist children and reinforce reading skills at home
