•If students receive a 100% on the pretest, they will receive a challenge list still focusing on the practice pattern for the week.

•Each Friday your child will bring home their homework folder that will be due the following Thursday. The homework will consist of a reading log, fluency practice, math facts and sight word study.

•Your child needs to practice each area of study 4 times during the week. Their folder needs to be returned EVERY Thursday with the logs indicating the days/times they completed each activity.

•This style of homework/practice will reinforce the necessary skills for success in second grade and beyond.

•Please support your child in completing their homework each week and returning their folder on time!

NWEA Computerized assessment given 3 times a year•Fall•Winter•Spring•Test data drives instruction

We are teaming with an educational company called eSpark•eSpark helps individualize learning plans based on NWEA data •By using educational APPS, students learn and practice specific skills aligned with the Common Core State Standards

•New this year, students will be using Compass Learning which is a similar program to eSpark, used on the laptops

Blended Learning in 2nd grade

•Students need to preorder lunch the day before.

•I Recommend Prepaying for Lunches to alleviate lost or forgotten lunch money. lunchdeposit.com

•Please send your child with a healthy snack each day to eat in the a.m. – please do not send juice & sports drinks with the snack.

•We have a drinking fountain in our classroom, so water bottles are optional, but if sending a water bottle, it must be a sports top, not screw off cap style.

EXTRAS•Take-Home Folder-Look for work that needs to be reviewed and send back each day

•No toys (trading cards & stuffed animals included) or make-up

Birthday Options:•In your child’s honor, they can bring in a store-bought treat to share with the class

•If your child has a summer birthday, feel free to celebrate their ½ birthday

•Please remember to include any necessary serving items (spoons, napkins, plates)

Star Student:•To highlight your child, each week we will have a “Star Student” who can lead special activities throughout the week
