Uniform Requirements Solid khaki, navy blue, or black for

the bottom and white or navy blue for the top.

Approved clothing items include shirts and blouses, turtleneck and polo-style shirts, slacks and pants, skirts and jumpers, shorts and capri pants, and jackets, cardigans, and sweaters.

Shirts, blouses, turtleneck, or polo-style shirts must have collars.

Skirts, jumpers, shorts, and capri pants must be at least finger-tip length.

The colors of cardigans, and sweaters must match the approved uniform colors.

Jackets are not limited to uniform colors. They must wear athletic shoes, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed-toe, closed-heel shoes. Closed-toe and open-heel mules are allowed.

Girls may wear leggings in school uniform color under their dress or skirt

1st Day of School

Drop off

Drop your child off in the gym. We will hold flags so you can easily identify us

Parents may walk students to individual classrooms the two weeks. However parents may NOT walk students to class in 1st grade after September 4th.

Please make sure your child arrives to school between 7:30 and 7:45 (the school opens at 7:30, please do not drop your child off earlier – there is no supervision prior to 7:30) Teachers will be picked up by their teacher in the gym by 7:55. The Tardy bell rings at 8:05am. Your child will need a tardy slip to enter the classroom once the tardy bell rings.

Dismissal is at 3:00- please pick up your child from the location you specified to your child’s teacher (not the classroom)

Check your child's backpack folder to see if there are any important memos and/or documents

Homework Homework is Friday to Friday: It goes home on Friday and is returned

the next Friday. This allows you to pace out homework with your family’s schedule. Spelling: Making words and high frequency words (5-10 minutes) Mon.-

Thurs. Reading: RAZ kids 2 nights; I Station 2 nights; Free choice 1 night:(20

minutes) Math: Weekly math packet review (5-10 minutes)

= no more than 30 minutes total a night including reading

*second semester writing homework will be included

2 projects a semester: your child will have ample time to work on a grade appropriate project .

Grading Policy 50% Tests / 50% Graded Work

E = 90- 100

S= 70- 89 (note wide range)

N = 69 or below

Progress Reports 3rd week of 6 weeks

Graded work comes home on Thursday’s in Thursday folders. Please look through and sign and return any papers that ask you to do so. Review missed concepts with your child.

Late Work: 10 point deduction per day late

Makeup work 1 day per excused absence day

Math Daily 3 for Math:

The Math Daily 3 Tasks

Math by MyselfStudents use independent math games and work with math manipulatives to review and reinforce previously learned math concepts. 

Math with SomeoneStudents work with a partner to develop math skills through math games and explorations using materials from the Investigations series.  These math games include games from the current Investigations unit, as well as previous Investigations units to reinforce and review previously learned concepts.

Math WritingStudents complete daily work with equations through the use of a number boggle board, number stories, and number of the day representations.  Students also have the opportunity to practice graphing, writing number words, and using charts to answer questions.

Math Continued Math Daily 3 Schedule:

Mini-Lesson 1: "We Do" lesson - teacher leads the lesson and students interact with the teacher and peers on new math topic

Breakout 1: Students work on one of the 3 independent Math Daily 3 tasks; teacher works with small, flexible guided math group to reinforce, review, or pre-teach important/challenging concepts

Mini-Lesson 2: "You Do" lesson - students work with their peers on the math topic covered during mini-lesson 1; teacher moves around the class

Breakout 2: Students work on one of the 3 independent Math Daily 3 tasks; teacher works with small, flexible guided math group

Mini Lesson 3: Show me what you know: The students complete the DOL for the day Time optional Break out 3: Teacher works with students who struggled in the DOL

Science Key focus this year in science:

Observations, evaluations, inquiry, questioning, and journaling Your child will become a master at using the scientific method to

solve real world questions and problems Students will sort and classify living and non-living things,

observe patterns in nature, record changes in weather patterns, and explore life cycles of plants and animals

We will need your help from time to time to provide supplies for our hand-on science experiments
