World Marriage Day - Feb. 12, 2017
It is sponsored by the American organization Worldwide Marriage Encounter, associated
. Its purpose is to honor husband and wife as
the foundation of the family, it salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life.
Marriage Prayer: O God, Help us to remember when we
first met, the strong love that grew between us….To work that
love into practical things so nothing can divide us. We ask for
words both kind and loving, And for hearts always ready to
ask forgiveness as well as forgive. Dear Lord, We put our
marriage into Your hands. Amen.
My dear Parishioners,
This past Monday afternoon I drove to the Trappist Monas-
tery in Conyers to join with other women and men of reli-
gious communities serving in the Archdiocese for an even-
ing of prayer and fellowship. Archbishop Gregory initiated
this annual event shortly after he arrived in Atlanta some
twelve years ago. Hosted by the monks and sponsored by
the Office of the Vicar for Consecrated Life, it provides a
wonderful opportunity for us to come together, renew ac-
quaintances, meet new arrivals and celebrate our life togeth-
er. Sister Margaret McAnoy, Vicar for Consecrated Life,
and Brother Callistus of the Monastery plan and coordinate
the whole affair which always occurs on or around March
2nd, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple.
Did you know that more than a dozen religious communities
of men serve in parishes throughout the Archdiocese? The
Marists and the Passionists are among the longest here; the
Jesuits are the newest, serving now at St. Thomas More in
Decatur. As I reflected on the variety of religious commu-
nities in parish ministry in this Archdiocese, I wondered
how many of their parishioners really knew the difference
between secular and religious clergy. One major difference
— secular priests are ordained primarily to serve in parishes
of a particular arch/diocese while religious priests are or-
dained to serve the universal church—to go wherever they
are missioned.
I wondered further, how many St. Paul of the Cross parish-
ioners know that their priests are members of a global reli-
gious community made up of priests and brothers—the Pas-
sionist Congregation. How much do YOU know about the
Passionists, their history, their manner of life, their spiritual-
ity? Are you aware that many laypersons around the world
are associated with vowed members in carrying out the mis-
sion of the Passionist Congregation: to keep alive the
memory of the sufferings of Christ? Could you see yourself
among them? I will pursue this a bit more in this space next
week.

INTENCIÓN DE ORACIÓN DE FEBRERO DEL PAPA FRANCISCO
Commitment: Next Weekend—Feb 18-19, 2017 St. Paul of the Cross Goal: $39,600.00
The mission of the Archdiocese of Atlanta is to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord, and grow all of North Georgia in faith, hope, love, and service to others. Together, we are sharing God’s compassion and mercy, and demonstrating that “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Your gift to the 2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps makes it possible by supporting the ministerial, outreach, education, formation and discipleship work of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Please read the material that has been included with your Sunday bulletin and commit to help fund the essential ministries and services supported by the Appeal. Next weekend, we will hear a recorded message from Archbishop Gregory about the Appeal and everyone will have the opportunity to make a gift to the Appeal during our in-pew process. Please be prepared next week to make a pledge to the 2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. To learn more about the appeal, and to donate online, visit appeal.archatl.com. A video of Archbishop Gregory’s Appeal message is also available online.
